(Bloomberg) — European leaders said Friday that US President Joe Biden’s warning about “Armageddon” and Russia’s possible use of nuclear weapons shows the seriousness of the threat from Moscow’s escalation in Ukraine.
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas told reporters that Vladimir Putin’s nuclear threats should be taken very seriously. “If nuclear weapons are used, then this is a whole new level,” she said. “And nobody can win a nuclear war. This is very clear. And I understand those messages have been given to Putin and the Kremlin that you can’t win this war.”
In recent days, US and other western officials have downplayed the imminent risk of a nuclear weapon being used, saying there were no indications that Moscow is preparing to use its arsenal. The Russian president has renewed his nuclear rhetoric as he announced the annexation of Ukrainian territory, but it echoes similar warnings he has issued since he invaded Ukraine in February.

Mark 7.36 expresses Jesus’ command to the witnesses not to tell anyone of the event that had taken place. This is not the only indication of secrecy in the Markan gospel; Mark 1.43-44, Mark 5.43 and Mark 7.24, and their synoptic counterparts (Matthew 8.4 and Luke 5.14 for 1.43-44, and Luke 8.56 for Mark 5.43) exhibit this also. There is evidence to suggest that these miracle stories and this command for secrecy was not directly to do with the messianic secret because the actual identity of Jesus is not an issue. Mark’s secrecy motif though indicates that the gospel writer did acknowledge these acts as works of the Messiah.[6] This indicates a link between Jesus’ commands and the Messianic secret. It is possible that this was the originally use of these sayings, to provide a link between the identity of the Messiah and the acts that he performed. When one considers redaction then Mark could have recorded the verses without their original sense (the link to the identity of the Messiah), if he chose to interpret them in a different way.
Jesus’ wish for secrecy appears obvious, but this assumes the attitude of Jesus based purely on his words and not on reaction. With Jesus telling the people not to talk of the miracle, they talked more. By this time Jesus would have surely been aware of the reaction people would have to his miracles and his commands. Jesus’ intention could have been a form of reverse psychology which acted as a catalyst for the spread of the story. This is though an issue of interpretation, attitude and redaction criticism which remains in contest.

I awoke from my Old Man Nap feeling grateful for my young cat who takes naps with me. I lay there thinking about my Walker post, and being forced to attend Billy Graham Crusades at the LA Coliseum. They set up a podium for Billy – on the fifty yard line!

American broadcasting company Cumulus Media said Thursday it’s ending the KGO (810 AM) news-talk format as listeners know it, and company officials told SFGATE in an email that it will be revealing a new brand on the channel on Monday.
A morning talk show was interrupted at about 10 a.m. with an announcement about the format change. “@KGO810 just interrupted their morning talk show to announce a program change. It’s all canned music and statements for a new format beginning Monday,” one Twitter user said.
The 80-year-old station’s format change was also announced on social media: “Today we say goodbye to the legendary KGO. We thank you for your loyalty and for trusting KGO to be your source for information. We also want to sincerely thank all the talented men and women that worked so hard over the years to produce award-winning programming on KGO.”
Broadcasting personalities and journalists shared their disappointment over the news. KTLA reporter David Lazarus wrote, “What a damn shame. At its peak, KGO was a bastion of fair-minded talk radio, with some of the best hosts in the business.”
“This is shocking, to say the least,” KCBS political reporter Doug Sovern said. “A Bay Area Radio institution, which had already been gutted, quite frankly, for years, is dead. One of the great stations in the history of radio. Rest In Programming.
Many listeners also expressed frustration. “This is the worst decision ever. One of the greatest stations in the country. I really want to cry!” wrote one Twitter user.

This is how the Apocalyptic New Testament begins. An angel talks to Mary, and her alleged cousin’s husband! Is there any MORE conversations with Messengers of the Lord? Why doesn’t Saint Paul mention Gabriel – and John the Baptist? Paul encourages his young followers NOT to get married – because the world is coming to an end. Really! Did – it end? Did the Second Coming of Elijah – fail to do his job? Will there be a – THIRD ELIJAH?

I tried to become a Christian in 1988. I puzzled over why the learned father of John the Baptist did not know about the other visitation by and angel, who came to a woman who was old in years – and could not conceive?

If I can solve several riddles about Jesus’s ministry – what need we of a thousand Bible colleges? What need of Pray Warriors, and Armed Militias, did Jesus need. Dismiss The Three who help cover up truth, religious truths, and secular truths. If Justice belongs to God, then they should hand in their resignations, and go into their church – and lock the door behind them! Whose business is it – what and who they pray for, as long as they keep it between them – AND THEIR GOD!

Second, Jesus’ comment, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear,” indicates that the disciples would have to ponder their Master’s words carefully in order to interpret them correctly. In essence, Christ knew that people would have difficulty figuring out John’s connection with Elijah! And his words urge us all to patient meditation in order to arrive at his meaning.
In reality, we have it much easier than the original disciples because we have the entire canon of Scripture for comparison. That canon includes Luke 1’s lengthy account of the birth of John the Baptist and the events leading up to it. Here Gabriel’s prophecy of John’s birth contains these important comments (vv. 16-17):
The Book of Revelation describes the day of the Lord as an apocalyptic time of God’s almighty wrath, which comes upon those who are deemed wicked. The text pictures every man hiding in the rocks of the mountains during a major earthquake to attempt to hide from God’s wrath, while celestial phenomena turn the moon blood red and the sun dark.[Revelation 6:12-17] These celestial phenomena are also mentioned in Joel 2:31, which foretells the same precise order of events mentioned in Revelation: The moon turns blood red and the sun turns dark before the great day of the Lord.[Joel 2:31] Matthew 24:29-31 mentions the same event, yet it places the celestial phenomenon as occurring after the “tribulation of those days”.[Matthew 24:29-31] According to these passages, it then seems that the day of the Lord is an event closely tied with the coming of the Messiah to judge the world.

Florida Pastor Charged in U.S. Capitol Siege After One of His Own Followers Ratted Him Out

Florida pastor James Varnell Cusick Jr. and his son Casey Cusick are facing charges in connection with the Jan. 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol Complex — all because a member of Cusick’s church told federal agents he was inside the Capitol with his pastor.
When the authorities interviewed David John Lesperance at his home in Florida after identifying him as one of the people present at the capitol, Lesperance admitted that he was in Washington, D.C. from Jan. 5 to Jan. 8 and that he and his pastor were “present at President Trump’s speech and then at the U.S. Capitol afterwards,” according to an FBI affidavit.
“Caldwell has opened the door on redirect examination to evidence that he created a “death list” and included included federal presidential election workers during the charged conspiracy,” the government argues. “As detailed in the government’s 404(b) notice… these particular election employees were the subject of widely circulated conspiracy theories that falsely asserted they fraudulently helped President Joe Biden succeed.”
The prosecutors go on to argue that “evidence that Caldwell intended to commit violence against these particular employees… flatly contradicts Caldwell’s conjured impression that his attention and actions were narrowly tailored to rally attendance and self-defense against ‘Antifa.'”
As John the Baptist was preaching and baptizing, the Pharisees sent a delegation to question him about his identity and ministry. When John denied being the Messiah, his interrogators immediately asked, “What then? Are you Elijah?” John’s answer was simple and straightforward: “I am not” (John 1:21). This would seem to settle the matter and put an end to any controversy.
Later, however, Jesus said of John the Baptist: “He is Elijah who is to come” (Matt 11:14). This seeming contradiction naturally puzzles Bible believers and gives Bible critics an opening to attack the Scriptures. Is John Elijah or isn’t he?
Theoretically, it’s possible that John wasn’t fully aware of his identity in God’s redemptive program. After all, Jesus’ statement about John comes in the context of responding to John’s struggles concerning Jesus’ own identity (Matt 11:2-3). One wishes for a more satisfying answer than ignorance on John’s part, however. Such an answer is available through careful comparison of the relevant texts.
NOT THE HISTORIC ELIJAH
Malachi 3 predicts a day of divine judgment and salvation but indicates that this day will be preceded by the ministry of a forerunner (v. 1).
Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me.
Malachi 4 likewise prophesies the Day of the Lord and also speaks of a preparatory messenger (vv. 5-6):
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes. And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction. (Mal 4:5-6)
In their longing for deliverance from oppression and the arrival of God’s kingdom, intertestamental Jews latched onto the hope of passages like Malachi 3 and 4. In particular, they expected that the historic Elijah—the one who had been spared from death and had ascended to heaven in a chariot of fire (2 Kings 2)—would return to the world as the forerunner of the Messiah.
Ohio Pastor Proudly Told Congregation He Was There for Jan. 6, Said ‘Mission Accomplished’ and ‘Hallelujah’ After Capitol Attack: Feds

An Ohio pastor who reveled in the storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6 and proudly told his congregation about it months later now faces felony charges, according to the Department of Justice.
A 57-year-old Frazeysburg, Ohio resident, William Dunfee made his intentions crystal clear through a bullhorn when addressing police officers directly on Jan. 6, the feds allege.
“Mister police officers, we want you to understand something. We want you to understand something. We want Donald Trump and if Donald Trump is not coming, we are taking our house,” he allegedly said. “We are taking our house.”
Now Dunfee faces felony charges for allegedly obstructing an official proceeding and interfering with a law enforcement officer during civil disorder. Several standard Jan. 6 misdemeanors for unlawful entry and disorderly conduct were also charged.
“On Jan. 6, 2021, Dunfee illegally entered the Capitol grounds and, using a bull horn, he repeatedly addressed the crowd, saying, among other things, ‘We are taking our house,’” the DOJ said in a press release. “At approximately 1:44 p.m., Dunfee pushed a metal barricade against officers with the U.S. Capitol Police, who were attempting to hold the line. He pushed against the barricade a second time at approximately 1:58 p.m. He moved to the front of a crowd of rioters at the East Front entrance to the Capitol. Dunfee walked away from the East Front doors as others moved into the building, but he remained in the area.”
The statement of facts in the case included several images that the DOJ says depict the defendant on Jan. 6. Several of the images show the suspect with the bullhorn in hand.
Court documents also include some of the words Dunfee allegedly spoke into that bullhorn in addressing the crowd that day.
“This election has been stolen right out from underneath of our noses and it is time for the American people to rise up. Rise up. Rise up. Today is the day in which it is that these elected officials realize that we are no longer playing games,” the documents said. “That we are not sheeple that are just going to be [unintelligible] according to [unintelligible].”
“We will stand up for our country. We are standing up for our freedoms. We are standing up for our president. And today is the day these elected officials, these senators and these congressmen, understand that we are not going to allow this to continue any longer,” he allegedly continued. “I am not talking about any of the nonsense of burning buildings and destroying another man’s property, but they [elected officials] need to fear us.”
Prosecutors say that the Warsaw, Ohio-based pastor’s politics were on full display in a Dec. 27, 2020 church video.
“The Government, the tyrants, the socialists, the Marxists, the progressives, the RINOs, they fear you. And they should. Our problem is we haven’t given them reason to fear us,” the defendant is accused of saying.
“January 4th through 6th … Are you ready?” he was also quoted asking the congregation, as if to spur them into action.
The government alleges that Dunfee not only had things to say before Jan. 6 but also basked in the afterglow.
When one rioter said “We did it. We shut ‘em all down. We did our job,” the pastor allegedly replied with “Hallelujah.” “Mission accomplished,” he also allegedly told the surrounding pro-Trump mob.
The feds said they became aware of “Pastor Bill” just over a month after the attack on the Capitol, when a “tipster” took screenshots of incriminating comments on a Facebook page:
On or about February 3, 2021, a tipster provided a screen capture of comments made on the Facebook group “Here We Go with Jeremy Herrell,” which read, “Amen Brother. My local ministry group was there and members of our group ‘stormed’ the Capital for a redress of our grievances. Leading the way was Pastor Bill. We as Christinas [sic] have the duty to overthrow evil.” Later the same tipster posted, “Just a clarification… Pastor Bill and several others of our group made into the interior doors of the Capital. They pushed back and forth with the police. They talked to the officers and told them why they were there. Not to harm or destroy. They wanted to talk to the Congress. When an officer came back and said that wasn’t possible, they tried to force the doors open. They were pepper sprayed and were stopped.”
Months later in May, the suspect allegedly bragged to his congregation about his actions, again in an incriminating post on Facebook (though this one was a video on his church page):
In a publicly available video posted on May 30, 2021, to the New Beginnings Ministries Warsaw Facebook page (see photograph 23 below), DUNFEE told his congregation, “We show up January 6th at the Capitol Building right? To let it be known that we are not going to stand back and let an election be stolen. That we are going to hold our legislators accountable, and so on and so forth? And what did that get us? Huh? We are all deemed what? Huh? Bunch of terrorists, right?” Later DUNFEE stated, “I can tell you, having been there [at the U.S. Capitol], that um, we were surrounded by patriots. Many, many, many, many patriots. And I thank god they showed up to um, just to let it be known, that you know, what the bottom line is this, that um, you are not stealing this election. You’re not going to rob us, deprive us of a democracy, of a republic, without us being heard.”

Elizabeth Elisheba means ‘Daughter of the Oath’ as in the Vow of the Nazarites. The Quran confuses Mary with Elizabeth who was ‘A Daughter of Aaron’. Mary was probably a Moabite Princess descended from Ruth. Mary has a claim to the ground upon which Herod’s temple was built. She wanted her son to wear a crown. So did the throng that greeted Jesus when he rode to Jerusalem on a white colt. John the Baptist may have baptized Jesus at this time, and thus ended the prohibition against the Moabite people. They were FORGIVEN OF ALL PAST SINS!
Hannah was the mother of the Prophet Samuel ‘The King Maker’. I am sure John was considered ‘A King Maker’ and thus mothers and fathers of royalty, who had lost their crowns, lined up to see Elizabeth and Zachariah, and have their kingdoms restored. How many Tribes are lost at this time?

Paul knew, that a woman who could not conceive, was considered a virgin, even is she had marital relations. God had closed her womb. Maryam bint Imran (Arabic: مَرْيَم بِنْت عِمْرَان, romanized: Maryam bint ʿImrān, lit. ‘Mary, daughter of Imran‘) is revered in Islam as the only woman named in the Quran, which refers to her seventy times and explicitly identifies her as the greatest woman to have ever lived.[1][2][3] In the Quran, her story is related in three Meccan surahs (19, 21, 23) and four Medinan surahs (3, 4, 5, 66), and the nineteenth Surah titled Maryam, is named after her. The Quran refers to Mary more often than the Bible.[4]
The Quran calls Mary “the daughter of Imran“[8] and it mentions that people called her a “sister of Aaron (Harun)“.[9] Her mother, mentioned in the Quran only as the wife of Imran, prayed for a child and eventually conceived.[10] According to al-Tabari, Mary’s mother was named Hannah (Arabic: هنا), and Imran (Arabic: عمران), her husband, died before the child was born.[11] Expecting the child to be male, Hannah vowed to dedicate him to isolation and service in the Temple.[10] However, Hannah bore a daughter instead, and named her Maryam.[12][13][14]
Mary is mentioned frequently in the Quran,[15] and her narrative occurs consistently from the earliest chapters, revealed in Mecca, to the latest verses, revealed in Medina.
The birth of Mary is narrated in the Quran with references to her father as well as her mother. Mary’s father is called Imran. He is the equivalent of Joachim in Christian tradition. Her mother, according to al-Tabari, is called Hannah,[11] which is the same name as in Christian tradition (Saint Anne). Muslim literature narrates that Imran and his wife were old and childless and that, one day, the sight of a bird in a tree feeding her young aroused Anne’s desire for a child. She prayed to God to fulfill her desire[16] and vowed, if her prayer was accepted, that her child would be dedicated to the service of God.
According to Iraqi scholar and translator, N.J. Dawood, the Quran confuses Mary mother of Jesus with Mary the sister of Moses, when it refers to the father of Mary, the mother of Jesus, as Imran, which is the Arabic version of Amram, who is shown to be the father of Moses in Exodus 6:20.[17] Dawood, in a note to Quran 19:28, where Mary the Mother of Jesus is referred to as the “Sister of Aaron”, and Aaron was the brother of Mary sister of Moses, states: “It Appears that Miriam, Aaron’s sister, and Maryam (Mary), mother of Jesus, were according to the Koran, one and the same person.”[18] Although Islamic studies of the beginning of the 20th century tended to see this as a mistake in genealogy, in more recent Islamic Studies of the 21st century the general consensus is, according to Angelika Neuwirth, Nicolai Sinai & Michael Marx, that the Quran does not make a genealogical error but instead makes use of Typology.[19] This is, following Wensincks conclusion, supported by the figurative speech of the Quran and the Islamic tradition:
Maryam is called a sister of Hārūn and the use of these three names Imrān, Hārūn and Maryam, has led to the supposition that the Kur’ān does not clearly distinguish between the two Maryams of the Old and the New Testaments. It is not necessary to assume that these kinship links are to be interpreted in modern terms. The words “sister” and “daughter”, like their male counterparts, in Arabic usage can indicate extended kinship, descendance or spiritual affinity. Muslim tradition is clear that there are eighteen centuries between the Biblical Amram and the father of Maryam.[20][21]

Here is the song the father of John the Baptist allegedly sang. It is similar to Hannah’s song who took the vow of the Nazarite, as did her son, Samuel the Nazarite. John was a Nazarite for life. Even while in his mother’s womb, he was filled with the Holy Spirit. John did not prepare the WAY for Jesus, but the “WAYS” of the Lord.

Mary’s song is titled a reversal. The Catholic church has juggled with these children and the truth – even while these babes were in their mother’s wombs! I have found a lineage of Nazarite women that includes Mary’s mother, Anna, that is the same as Hannah! Both women were Nazarites.

Hannah praises Yahweh, reflects on the reversals he accomplishes, and looks forward to his king. Verses 4-5 contains three reversals. Stanley D. Walters notes that one is a “reversal of macho male prowess”, one a “reversal of female longing” and one is “gender-neutral and universal”.[1] There is a movement in this song from the particular to the general. It opens with Hannah’s own gratitude for a local reversal, and closes with God’s defeat of his enemies – a cosmic reversal.[2] Through the theme of reversal, the Song of Hannah functions as an introduction to the whole book. Keil and Delitzsch argue that Hannah’s experience of reversal was a pledge of how God “would also lift up and glorify his whole nation, which was at that time so deeply bowed down and oppressed by its foes.”[3] The reference to a king in verse 10 has provoked considerable discussion. A. F. Kirkpatrick argues that this does not imply a late date for the song, since “the idea of a king was not altogether novel to the Israelite mind” and “amid the prevalent anarchy and growing disintegration of the nation, amid internal corruption and external attack, the desire for a king was probably taking definite shape in the popular mind.”[4] Walter Brueggemann suggests that the Song of Hannah paves the way for a major theme of the Book of Samuel, the “power and willingness of Yahweh to intrude, intervene and invert.”[5]

The Benedictus (also Song of Zechariah or Canticle of Zachary), given in Gospel of Luke 1:68-79, is one of the three canticles[1] in the opening chapters of this Gospel. The Benedictus was the song of thanksgiving uttered by Zechariah on the occasion of the birth of his son, John the Baptist. The whole canticle naturally falls into two parts. The first (verses 68-75) is a song of thanksgiving for the realization of the Messianic hopes of the Jewish nation; but to such realization is given a characteristically Christian tone. As of old, in the family of David, there was power to defend the nation against their enemies, now again that of which they had been so long deprived, and for which they had been yearning, was to be restored to them, but in a higher and spiritual sense. The horn is a sign of power, and the “horn of salvation” signified the power of delivering or “a mighty deliverance”. While the Jews had impatiently borne the yoke of the Romans, they had continually sighed for the time when the House of David was to be their deliverer. The deliverance was now at hand, and was pointed to by Zechariah as the fulfilment of God’s oath to Abraham; but the fulfilment is described as a deliverance not for the sake of worldly power, but that “we may serve him without fear, in holiness and justice all our days”. The second part of the canticle is an address by Zechariah to his own son, who was to take so important a part in the scheme of the Redemption; for he was to be a prophet, and to preach the remission of sins before the coming or the Dawn from on high. The prophecy that he was to “go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways” (v. 76) was of course an allusion to the well-known words of Isaiah 40:3 which John himself afterwards applied to his own mission (John 1:23), and which all three Synoptic Gospels adopt (Matt 3:3; Mark 1:2; Luke 3:4).

THE WAR OF ARMAGEDDON
Here is THE MOUSE I waited for. It is alleged Paul to the Vow of the Nazarite several times. A MOB seizes him, casts him out of the temple – and SLAMS THE DOOR. Paul is arrested, and taken to Rome. His ministry – allegedly came to an end. What….I JUST SAW, is that Paul led the mob, along with the conservative sect of Pharisees, who did not like the Edomites being admitted back into the Covenant of God, because the Herodians were Edomites, but, the last straw was – letting the Moabites back in! Jesus was a Moabite. Is this why he was arrested? Did Jesus take the Vow of the Nazarite? YES! Who helped him complete his vow at the temple? Was Saul – a witness? Did Saul-Paul know Jesus was a Nazarite? Yes! This is why he ignores Mary, whose grandmother to the Vow of the Nazarite, as did John’s mother – WHO WAS A DAUGHTER OF AARON!
ACTS 21:27-30 27 Now when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews from Asia, seeing him in the temple, stirred up the whole crowd and laid hands on him, 28 crying out, “Men of Israel, help! This is the man who teaches all men everywhere against the people, the law, and this place; and furthermore he also brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place.”
Queen Helen, and Queen Bernice took the Vow of the Nazarite, and they are FOREIGNERS – Gentiles. Could gentiles take the Vow? Yes! Was there a priestly ruling on this? Yes. Who made the ruling? John the Baptist who could speak when eight days old, and, read the Torah. I believe John Baptized Jews and Gentiles – into the New Heaven and Earth….The New Covenant – HE REVEALED!
I believe Saul-Paul became a quisling while in a Roman jail, and made a pact with Satan. He came back to Judea, with Roman papers – and had Saint Stephen – MURDERED! I believe Stephen was a Nazarite, Baptizing many Gentiles into the New Covenant. I believe the crucifixion of Jesus, as the King of the Moabites, was a lesson to all Moabite converts, that taking the Vow of the Nazarite – will not forgive the past sins of the Moabites – so that they too will know Eternal Life. Saul-Paul loathed the idea that Gentiles – and Moabites – would be his equal. This is why he destroy The First Church, and made himself the head of this church – that he looked down his nose at. He hated John’s church! This is why he does not mention John – and barely mentions Jesus…..THE MOABITE!
ACTS 21:26 26 Then Paul took the men, and the next day, having been purified with them, entered the temple to announce the expiration of the days of purification, at which time an offering should be made for each one of them.
Was Paul wrong to agree to take the Nazarite vow? Possibly but not necessarily. Just after his first departure from Corinth, Paul took a Nazarite vow and had his hair cut off at Cenchrea, the eastern port of Corinth, but there is no mention of him making any offering, let alone sin or trespass offering (see Aquila and Priscilla): “So Paul still remained a good while. Then he took leave of the brethren and sailed for Syria, and Priscilla and Aquila were with him. He had his hair cut off at Cenchrea, for he had taken a vow. And he came to Ephesus, and left them there; but he himself entered the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews” (Acts 18:18-19). If the offerings were omitted as implied, Paul may have wanted the consecration part of the Nazarite vow but not the atonement/sin/trespass offering part, which he stripped out. If so, he could have been planning to do the same or praying to the Lord to intervene before the end of the purification period at which time the offerings were supposed to be made.
ACTS 21:27-30 27 Now when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews from Asia, seeing him in the temple, stirred up the whole crowd and laid hands on him, 28 crying out, “Men of Israel, help! This is the man who teaches all men everywhere against the people, the law, and this place; and furthermore he also brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place.” 29 (For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.) 30 And all the city was disturbed; and the people ran together, seized Paul, and dragged him out of the temple; and immediately the doors were shut.
Did the Lord intervene? Since the mob “seized Paul, and dragged him out of the temple” (Acts 21:30) just before the seven day purification period ended – “when the seven days were almost ended” (Acts 21:27), Paul and the four men had yet to make the “offering” (Acts 21:26).
Who saw Paul and “stirred up” (Acts 21:27) the crowd? “Jews from Asia” (Acts 21:27)
Why would they recognize Paul and what would they have against him? Since they previously had recognized “Trophimus” (Acts 21:29), one of the eight men who had accompanied Paul to Jerusalem, as an “Ephesian” (Acts 21:29), they were probably from Ephesus, where Paul ministered for three years and planted a church that flourished, much to the displeasure of the Ephesian Jews, who would know and welcome an opportunity to accuse Paul.
Why were the “doors … shut” (Acts 21:30)? Since the mob was “seeking to kill him” (Acts 21:31), the temple guards probably didn’t want Paul’s impending death to defile the temple or another gentile allegedly sneaking into the temple.
On the other hand, a Nazarite has to be grafted into service for God because he’s just an ordinary Israelite.
However, once an Israelite becomes a Nazarite, his status in terms of HOLINESS becomes pretty much the same as a priest.
The only difference is that he can’t serve at the Tabernacle.
Now let’s apply this concept to Jews and Gentiles.
A Jew is born INSIDE the covenants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
A Gentile is born OUTSIDE the covenants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
However, just as there was a provision for the ordinary Israelite to be made equal in status before God through the Nazarite vows, so through Yeshua, provision has been made for the gentile to be made equal in spiritual status before the Lord.
R1 Maccabees relates the story of how Mattathias (ca. 166 BC) forcibly circumcised the sons of Jewish parents who had abandoned the rite.[6] Forced circumcision of Gentiles by Jews is attested from the second century BC onwards. In 125 BC John Hyrcanus conquered Edom, which the Romans called Idumea; and the Idumeans were forcibly converted to Judaism, by threat of exile or death, depending on the source.[7][8] As reported by Josephus, circumcision was required of the Idumeans:
Hyrcanus took also Dora and Marissa, cities of Idumea, and subdued all the Idumeans; and permitted them to stay in that country, if they would circumcise their genitals, and make use of the laws of the Jews; and they were so desirous of living in the country of their forefathers, that they submitted to the use of circumcision, and the rest of the Jewish ways of living; at which time therefore this befell them, that they were hereafter no other than Jews.[9]
Feedback: Does Deuteronomy 23:3 Invalidate Jesus’ Messianic Claim?
(And Does the Bible Conflate the Ammonites, Moabites, and Midianites?)
Some suggest Jesus could not be the Messiah since he descended from a Moabitess and an Ammonitess, but the charge fails to understand all of Scripture.
I read an article [website redacted] which asked these questions [below]. Are their questions valid?
How can Jesus be the Messiah when he has both Moabite and Ammonite ancestry listed in his genealogies (per Deuteronomy 23:3)? Also did the author of Deuteronomy 23:3–4 “forget” that in Numbers 22:7 it was Midian and not Ammon who with Moab, hired Balaam to curse Israel. How can the Holy Spirit be “real” if it allowed Moses to err and write in Deuteronomy 23:3–4 that it was Ammon instead of Midian who with Moab hired Balaam to curse Israel? The Holy Spirit is not supposed to contradict itself and make mistakes, yet did here, unjustifiably cursing Ammon for all eternity for an action initiated by the “elders of Midian.” And why then were Midian’s descendants not cursed by God and forbidden to enter the Holy Congregation, but only Ammon and Moab are cursed?

Hello C.D., thank you for writing to Answers in Genesis. First of all let’s look at the Deuteronomy passage in question.
No Ammonite or Moabite may enter the assembly of the Lord. Even to the tenth generation, none of them may enter the assembly of the Lord forever, because they did not meet you with bread and with water on the way, when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you. (Deuteronomy 23:3–4)
There has been a recent skeptical claim (and it has been repeated on multiple skeptic websites) that since Jesus has both Moabite (direct) and Ammonite (by adoption) bloodlines, he cannot be the Messiah. But first of all those who promote this claim make a classic blunder here. The text specifically states that an Ammonite or Moabite are the proscribed people. Yet neither of these apply to Jesus’ bloodline. Notice that the term used for each is male, not female. An Ammonite woman is not called an Ammonite, but an Ammonitess (1 Kings 14:21; 2 Chronicles 12:13) and a Moabite woman is called a Moabitess (Ruth 1:22; 2 Chronicles 24:26). And according to Jewish law and tradition, curses follow the father, not the mother. The meaning of the text is that (a) any pagan Ammonite or Moabite male cannot enter the assembly of the Lord, or (b) anyone who has an Ammonite or Moabite father and Israelite mother cannot enter the assembly of the Lord. Therefore this text is not applicable in disqualifying Jesus as the Messiah. It is also referring to the Ammonite or Moabite man remaining pagan (not worshipping the one true God). In the occurrence that he married an Israelite woman, his offspring were still under the ban. In Jewish commentaries, rabbis generally interpreted the command of Deuteronomy 23:3 to apply to a (male) Moabite and Ammonite, but not to a Moabitess or Ammonitess. “Ammonite and Moabite converts are prohibited from entering into the congregation and marrying a woman who was born Jewish, and their prohibition is eternal, for all generations. However, their female counterparts, even the convert herself, are permitted immediately” (Mishnah Yevamot 8:3).1
Yet neither of these [terms] apply to Jesus’ bloodline. Notice that the term used for each is male, not female. An Ammonite woman is called not an Ammonite but an Ammonitess, and a Moabite woman is called a Moabitess.
Regarding the Ammonite bloodline, that was through Solomon’s son Rehoboam (1 Kings 14:21), and he is only in Jesus’ bloodline through Jesus’ adoption by Joseph. In regard to the Moabite bloodline (from Ruth) not affecting Jesus’ rightful claim to the Messiahship, there are a couple of factors to consider.
Another reason Deuteronomy 23:3 would not have applied to Ruth and her offspring is simply because a non-Israelite mother in Israel (especially one who was a proselyte!) did not determine the nationality of her offspring. Joseph’s Egyptian wife did not make their sons Ephraim and Manasseh Egyptians (Genesis 41:50–52). Moses’ marriage to Zipporah, a Midianite (Exodus 2:11–25), did not disqualify their sons Gershom and Eliezer from being Israelites (Exodus 2:22; 18:1–4), nor did it make them Midianites. Salmon’s marriage to Rahab (the Jerichoan harlot) did not mean their son Boaz was a recognized Gentile of Jericho (Matthew 1:5). And the Moabitess Ruth, wife of Boaz, did not make their son Obed, their grandson Jesse, their great-grandson David, or their descendants Joseph and Mary (the earthly parents of Jesus) anything other than legitimate descendants of Abraham (Matthew 1:1–17; Luke 3:23–38)—according to the standard reckoning of Israelite heritage. In the eyes of all of Israel, David was an Israelite of the tribe of Judah—and was no more a Moabite than he was a Jerichoan.2
And additionally, the Israelites were to “treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God” (Leviticus 19:34). People from other nations who worshipped the Lord were allowed to give food offerings to the Lord and were allowed to meet in the general assemblies of the people during religious festivals and were to follow the same rules and be treated as Israelites (Numbers 15:14–15). The “sojourner” (any foreigner living in the land of Israel) was commanded to give thanks and praise to God in the place that God would choose (meaning at first the Tabernacle at Shiloh, and ultimately the Temple at Jerusalem) along with Israelites (Deuteronomy 16:11). And the foreigner living with the Israelite was to assemble with them “that they may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, and be careful to do all the words of this law and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, as long as you live in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess” (Deuteronomy 31:12–13). Do these passages seem like they are saying that sojourners who worshipped the one true God and not their pagan gods were denied a place in the assemblies for religious festivals? Certainly not!
While the above quote from the Mishnah Yevamot states that male Ammonites and Moabites were prohibited from marrying Jewish women and being in the assembly, that may be referring only to the Tabernacle and Temple proper, not to the general assembly gatherings. Furthermore, that is a rabbinic interpretation, and it may not apply to proselytes but only pagan Moabites and Ammonites. For example, in the Mishnah Yevamot it states that “Mamzerim and the Gibeonites who converted to Judaism in the days of Joshua are prohibited from entering into the congregation and marrying a woman who was born Jewish. Their prohibition is eternal, for all generations, and it applies to both males and females.” Yet we read in Scripture that the Tabernacle during the time of David was in Gibeon (1 Chronicles 21:29), and it was there that the Lord appeared to Solomon and where Solomon asked the Lord for wisdom in ruling Israel as king (1 Kings 3:5–15). Additionally, one of David’s mighty men, Ishmaiah the Gibeonite (1 Chronicles 12:4), was likely with David when he called the assembly to designate Solomon as his successor (1 Chronicles 28:1), and he swore fealty to Solomon alongside the princes of Israel (1 Chronicles 29:24). Also during the time of Nehemiah, Melatiah the Gibeonite and 95 other Gibeonites helped rebuild the walls of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 3:7, 7:25), which when completed were recognized even by Nehemiah’s enemies as the work of God (Nehemiah 6:15–16). Furthermore, we read in Joshua 9:7 and 11:19 that the Gibeonites were of Hivite descent, not of Moabite or Ammonite descent and therefore the proscriptions of Deuteronomy 23:3 do not apply to them. Therefore, this quote from the Mishnah Yevamot seems incongruous with these passages of Scripture if the Gibeonites were “outcasts” to the assemblies of Israel.3
Skeptical About the Holy Spirit?
Frequently, in addition to the above claim of Jesus’ Messiahship being invalidated by Deuteronomy 23:3, there is also included with it a separate (but related due to the nationalities of the peoples mentioned) alleged contradiction about the Holy Spirit confusing and/or conflating Ammon, Moab, and Midian.
First of all, we need to recall that Deuteronomy 23:4 specifically lists two reasons for the curse on Ammon and Moab. The first one, often missed by the skeptics making this claim, is “because they [Ammon and Moab] did not meet you with bread and with water on the way, when you came out of Egypt.” As descendants of Abraham’s nephew Lot (Genesis 19:37–38), they should have been sympathetic to the plight of the Israelites as they left Egypt. Instead, they were hostile, even though God had forbidden Israel to enter their lands, harass them or take any of their territory (Deuteronomy 2:9 & 19).

Also, Moab and Ammon are often viewed as one group. What Moab does can be said of Ammon and vice versa (see Judges 3:12–14, 11:12–28, 2 Chronicles 20; Jeremiah 40:11; Zephaniah 2:8). And Numbers 22–24 shows how Midian was totally intertwined with Moab, and their elders (or rulers) were both united under Balak of Moab. 1 Chronicles 1:46 also seems to hint at strong ties between Midian and Moab. The point is that God often viewed Midian and Moab as one unit and/or Moab and Ammon as one unit when they were in collusion against Israel.
It may also be that Midian was not specifically named in that generational curse in Deuteronomy 23 because Moses had married a Midianite woman, his father-in-law was a Midianite priest to God, and his brother-in-law Hobab (Numbers 10:29) served as a scout and guide for them in the wilderness for a time. Perhaps (unlike the case of Sodom) there were enough righteous people in Midian that the Lord would not allow them all to be cursed. Yet Midian did not escape unscathed from the Balak/Balaam incident, for we read in Numbers 25:17 that God instructed Moses to “harass the Midianites,” and in Numbers 31:2–7, they went to war against them and killed most of the Midianites (some fled from the battle and turned up later in Judges 6 and 7, where they were defeated again by Gideon). Therefore, there was no need for them to be cursed: they were judged by God (and we trust that the Judge of all the earth will do right per Genesis 18:25). The ones who remained after their defeat by Gideon were “subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted their heads no more,” meaning that they no longer had the strength to battle Israel’s armies (Judges 8:28).
Conclusion
Jesus’ Messianic status was and is not affected by his Moabitess ancestry (through Ruth), and he had no Ammonitess ancestry except by adoption, as the maternal line came through David’s son Nathan, not Rehoboam (Luke 3:31). And time and again throughout Scripture, the people of Ammon, Moab, and Midian are equated as collaborating against Israel and are often labeled as a group by the Holy Spirit. There are no contradictions with Deuteronomy 23:3 and other Scripture.
Though the Samaritans were outcasts in Israel, Jesus brought them near with his blood, just as he did with Israelites and other Gentiles and has made them (and us) all one people (Ephesians 2:11–13).
Jesus is indeed the Messiah, the anointed one of God, and ironically one of the first persons, besides Andrew (John 1:40–41) to recognize this was a Samaritan woman (in John 4:25–29) who then brought other Samaritans to Jesus who then also believed Jesus was the Christ (John 4:40–42). The Samaritans were of mixed Jewish, Canaanite, and pan-Mesopotamian heritage, per 2 Kings 17:24. No doubt, some had Ammonite and Moabite ancestry in their blood. Yet recall that one of the last things Jesus said to his disciples before his ascension was that “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). Though the Samaritans were outcasts in Israel, Jesus brought them near with his blood, just as he did with Israelites and other Gentiles, and has made them (and us) all one people (Ephesians 2:11–13).
For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God. (Ephesians 2:14–19)
