  • The Grateful Ducks collection honors nearly 60 years of connection between the Grateful Dead, whose genre-defying sound and psychedelia redefined American music, and Eugene, the birthplace of Nike and home to the University of Oregon.
  • At the center of the collection is a limited-edition Nike Air Max 90 sneaker that celebrates the Grateful Dead’s historic 1990 shows at the University of Oregon’s Autzen Stadium.
  • In addition to the exclusive Air Max 90, the Nike x Class Trip Grateful Ducks collection includes jackets, sweatpants, hoodies, T-shirts and headwear that blend the University of Oregon’s countercultural roots with the Grateful Dead’s timeless aesthetic.
  • The Oregon Ducks will also continue to chart new paths in uniform design by wearing Nike jerseys with a tie-dye theme and reimagined Steal Your Face logo during their October 25 “Tie-Dye Out” football game against the University of Wisconsin.
  • The Grateful Ducks collection will be available October 21 at dead.net, October 23 at classtrip.co, and October 24 throughout the U.S. via nike.com, SNKRS, Fanatics and select retail partners.

Nike, Class Trip and the University of Oregon are coming together to unveil the Grateful Ducks collection: a vibrant fusion of sport, music and counterculture that pays tribute to the enduring bond between the Grateful Dead and its home away from home.

The new collaboration honors nearly 60 years of connection between the iconic band, whose genre-defying sound and psychedelia redefined American music, and Eugene, the birthplace of Nike and home to the University of Oregon.

The Grateful Ducks collection brings this story to life through a full range of apparel and footwear that unites the partners’ unique visual languages, bridges generations, and celebrates the past while shaping the future of sport and style.

At the center of the collection is the Nike Air Max 90 x Class Trip x Grateful Dead, which celebrates the band’s historic 1990 shows at Autzen Stadium in a limited-edition expression of an Air Max style worn by Grateful Dead lead singer Jerry Garcia.

The shoe’s layered greens and yellows are inspired by lush Oregon landscapes, and tie-dye accents provide a distinctive nod to the Grateful Dead. Additional, Dead-inspired details include lightning-bolt Swooshes, co-branded tongue tags and custom sock liners — all marking a convergence of art, sport and sound.

The collection further blends the University of Oregon’s countercultural roots with the Grateful Dead’s timeless aesthetic through varsity and bomber jackets, sweatpants, hoodies, T-shirts and classic headwear.

University of Oregon officials are encouraging fans to wear Grateful Ducks apparel during the Ducks’ first “Tie-Dye Out” October 25 against the University of Wisconsin, which will transform Autzen Stadium into a sea of swirling color and sound.

The Ducks’ uniforms and sideline apparel will also take on a tie-dye theme, with the Grateful Dead’s iconic Steal Your Face logo reimagined as a Duck with a lightning bolt Swoosh on both shoulders of the team’s game jerseys.

Both the Grateful Ducks collection and Nike game day apparel carry forward the shared history of the University of Oregon and Grateful Dead, which began in 1965 when novelist and Merry Pranksters leader Ken Kesey returned home to Oregon from San Francisco, bringing with him the energy that fueled the psychedelic and countercultural movement. In 1968, the Grateful Dead performed their first concert at the University of Oregon’s EMU Ballroom, forging a bond that transcended music. As Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux described, the university became the band’s “home away from home.”

That relationship deepened in 1972, when the band returned to play a legendary benefit concert for the Kesey family’s Springfield Creamery, makers of Nancy’s Yogurt, saving the business and delivering one of the most storied performances in rock history.

The Grateful Dead ultimately played more than 20 shows in Eugene, including 10 at Autzen Stadium, reinforcing the city and university’s position as a creative hub at the intersection of music, art and athleticism.

The Nike x Class Trip x Grateful Dead x University of Oregon Grateful Ducks collection will be available October 21 at dead.net, October 23 at classtrip.co, and October 24 throughout the U.S. via nike.comSNKRS, Fanatics and select retail partners.

Chapter Three

When Victoria told Starfish they were going to Eugene Oregon to track down what became of the Rose Division amongst the Habsburgs, she let out a spine-altering scrrrrrreeeee! She then shook all over, began to sweat profusely, and went into a trance. Victoria retreated, and Sharena got out from behind her desk, just in case she had to make a bee-line for the exit as Starfish made super rapid foot movements with quck turns in different directions. She would later tell the folks at BAD that this was the Lek black grouse dance she learned in South Africa where she and her father fled to get away from Vladimir Putin when he became Premiere of Russia.

“I’m going to bring my drum! This is a dream come true. My mother was born in Eugene. I’ve never been there! Screeeeeee!”

“You own a drum? Why isn’t this in the report? By any chance have you heard of John von Bond?”

“Nope! But, have you heard of the Oregon Country Fair! My Kabalak Klock is telling me this is a Kosmic Konnection made in another dimension. What great timing! We are going to enter the Royal Drum Vortex. I am forbidden to ever step foot in Eugene, but, I don’t give a shit! This is it! You’re going to see – the real me! I want you to promise you will get me back to BAD!”

Chapter Eight

Starfish’s Russian Blue

Victoria tried not to be distracted, but Miriam’s TISKING grew louder and louder.

“O.K. What is it – this time?”

“I’m reading about Phil Knight and how he is working behind the scene to make sure Tina Kotek is not elected. My father met Phil and a track meet. He is kin to Mark Hatfield. It looks like he wants to leave a BIG HISTORIC MARK on Oregon, for the sake of his wife and kids. Tina is married to a woman. She is one with us.”

“Let’s get on the same page. Hmmm! Looks like he wants to teach the Bohemian Alternative Folks a BIG RICH AND POWERFUL LESSON, being, ONLY THE RICH OWN REAL POWER. Oh, well! There’s nothing – WE CAN DO! Time to get ready for our event at the Getty Estate.”

Five minutes later, Starfish is really ticking up a storm!

“Now what?”

Russian cats have been banned from shows – including the Russian Blues! I owned one as a child. The Ukrainians claim – they developed the breed! It’s been a point of contention for years.”

“Hmmm!”

“I know what, let’s produce our own brand of tennis shoe and names them……BLUES! The Ukranian soldiers wear blue armbands. Our blue tennis shoes will be a protest against ALL THE OLIGACHS. Half the proceeds will go for helping Russian and Ukraine refugees! I’m going to call Viktoryia and see if she wants to model our blue shoes.”

“Oh! You have her number?”

Chapter New Cold War Heros

by

John Presco

Putin’ s men took Starfish and Victoria to a special prison, where a hologram of the Russian leader introduced our BAD agents to foreign prisoners. One was a giant of a woman that played basketball. Miriam told this forlorn woman that she was an athlete, an amazing hurdler – who has never competed!

“We ran in a grove of trees felled in a windstorm. Ivan competed at Hayward field in Eugene Oregon.”

One of the men behind the mirror got on Google and brought up Victoria Thachuk, a Ukrainian hurdler that will compete at Hayward field, while Russia is banned. Putin’s hologram was fed this information, and his image pointed to a screen. When a video of Viktoriya in a race was played, both our spies gasped.

“They are like sisters – twins! “

The International Cat Federation has banned Russian cats from its competitions following the country’s move to invade Ukraine last week.

The federation, which is also known as FIFe after its French name, Fédération Internationale Féline, said in a statement that it was “shocked and horrified” that Russian forces had attacked Ukraine and “started a war.”

“No cat belonging to exhibitors living in Russia may be entered at any FIFe show outside Russia, regardless of which organization these exhibitors hold their membership in,” the organization said in the statement.

In addition, no cat bred in Russia may be imported and registered in any FIFe pedigree book outside Russia, regardless of which organization issued its pedigree.

The federation said the measures were decided Tuesday, as its officials could not “witness these atrocities and do nothing.”

“Many innocent people died, many more are wounded and hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians are forced to flee their homes to save their lives,” the organization said. “On top of that our Ukrainian fellow feline fanciers are desperately trying to take care of their cats and other animals in these trying circumstances.”

The ban on Russian felines will remain in place until the end of May, after which it will be re-evaluated. Officials said they would also be donating funds to assist cat breeders in Ukraine.

The International Cat Federation was first formed in 1949 and hosts over 700 shows each year with more than 200,000 cats exhibited, according to its website.

The International Cat Federation is the latest organization to take a stand against Russia.

On Feb. 28, the International Olympic Committee banned Russian athletes from competing in the Paralympics, which began on Friday. The committee urged other sports bodies to do the same in excluding Russian athletes and officials from international events.

In response, FIFA has suspended Russian national teams from World Cup competition, including qualifying playoffs set to take place later this month.

Tech companies are also taking action in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Apple has stopped selling all of its products in Russia, while Google has suspended all ad sales in the country. Twitter and Snapchat have also made similar ad pauses in the country.

Why is Nike founder Phil Knight so desperate to prevent a Democratic win in Oregon?

Knight’s backing for Christine Drazan clashes with the company’s progressive image. Could it tip the governor’s race?

If Republicans win the race for Oregon governor, it will be down to one man: Phil Knight.

Knight, of course, is the 84-year-old co-founder and chair emeritus of Nike, the house that Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods built. And in this race to govern Oregon, a bastion of west coast liberalism, Knight has thrown full support behind the Republican Christine Drazan, an anti-abortion, tough-on-crime former lobbyist pushing “election integrity”. In a rare interview with the New York Times, Knight made his motive clear: Oregon’s next governor can be anyone but the Democratic nominee, Tina Kotek.

Knight’s lavish support of the right would seem to betray Nike’s own pursuit of social equality and environmental protection. After all, this is the “Just Do It” brand that champions Serena Williams, that kneels with Colin Kaepernick, that featured Argentina’s first trans female soccer player in a recent advertisement.

Over the years, the company has pledged millions to organizations dedicated to leveling the playing field in all spheres of life. But it has also come under fire for crafting a progressive PR image as cover while manufacturing products in Asian sweatshops with forced labor practices. A 2019 study by the Clean Clothes Campaign gave Nike its worst rating, stating: “The brand can show no evidence of a living wage being paid to any workers.” Worse, a 2020 Washington Post report sourced some Nike products to a Chinese factory “under conditions that strongly suggest forced labor” among Uyghurs, according to the Australian Strategic Policy Institute thinktank.

Drazan, on the other hand, led a walkout of state GOP legislators before a critical cap-and-trade vote. Besides being fiercely pro-Trump, she is also against transgender athletes in competition. So it figures that Nike, which pledged to cover travel and lodging for employees without abortion access, donated $75,000 to Kotek – who, as speaker, raised the minimum wage, limited state power plant emissions and committed to solving Oregon’s homeless crisis.

Kotek should have been a lock to become Oregon’s next governor when she launched her campaign earlier this year. A lifelong Democrat, Kotek is the state’s furthest-left nominee yet – a policy advocate for a children’s group and a food bank before she was the legislature’s longest-serving speaker.

People walking past an H&M shop

But Kotek has struggled to push past Drazan, the former GOP house leader who’s only been in politics for three years. Republicans are rubbing their hands at the prospect of retaking the governorship for the first time since the Reagan administration. And it’s Knight who’s kept the door propped open for them.

Here is the story of  Nan Yogurtmundi who was worshipped by the Grateful Dead and the Kesey Family. Swami Yogurtmundi was the first girl I ever kissed. We were twelve and living in Oakland.

The Hog Rainbow Farm showed up at the Sunshine Dream concert. If this how Erin Sullivan came to paint the rainbow in the Creamery mural? Dudes delivering Crumb comics in San Francisco would come up and get a shit-load of Yogurtmundi take back to SF and sell it to Organic Food Stores. This is key because we see the first appearance of The Wholey Trinity of Alternative Capitalism….The Farm…..The Product…….The Arts! Now add the Sunshine Dream Grateful Dead Concert – and a scorching hot day – and we have a True transcendence that left Woodstock in its wake. No one thought to bring water. The main concern was to get some mind-altering LSD in ones system – and reach Nirvana!  Emerald Valley Nudity was born out of necessity.

With the coming of the hateful Trumpite Shout-downs, it is time to rekindle The Generation of Love.  “Get out!’ has replaced the ‘Human Be-in’ that Nan Yogurtmundi and I attended at the Polo Grounds in 1966. Let us put tiny cymbals on our fingers and imitate the naked Sadgurus.

I have come to Change The Name. We buried Hippie in 1966 and renamed him Freebie. That did not take. I told Belle of Rosamond, which is a spiritual movement in Russia. I hereby give us the name ROSMIRANS. ‘Wondrous Rose of Peace from the Sea’. And, why we are at it, let us change the name of Springfield to – Nancyland? How about Creamville  Nancy and I have roots in San Francisco and Oakland.

He is the real Sadhu, who can reveal the form of the Formless to the vision of these eyes;
Who teaches the simple way of attaining Him, that is other than rites or ceremonies;
Who does not make you close the doors, and hold the breath, and renounce the world;
Who makes you perceive the Supreme Spirit wherever the mind attaches itself;
Who teaches you to be still in the midst of all your activities.
Ever immersed in bliss, having no fear in his mind, he keeps the spirit of union in the midst of all enjoyments.
The infinite dwelling of the Infinite Being is everywhere: in earth, water, sky, and air;
Firm as the thunderbolt, the seat of the seeker is established above the void.
He who is within is without: I see Him and none else.[5]

VasisthaRama‘s guru, was the satguru in the Treta yuga. Swami Shankar Purushottam Tirtha quotes the Yoga Vasistha:

A real preceptor is one who can produce blissful sensation in the body of the disciple by their sight, touch, or instructions.[6]

Roza Mira (Full title in Russian: Роза Мира. Метафилософия истории, literally, The Rose of the World. The Metaphilosophy of History.) is the title of the main book by Russian mystic Daniil Andreev. It is also the name of the predicted new universal religion, to emerge and unite all people of the world before the advent of the Antichrist, described by Andreev in his book. This new interreligion, as he calls it, should unite the existing religions “like a flower unites its petals”, Andreev wrote.

According to Roza Mira, different religions do not contradict each other, because they tell about different aspects of spiritual reality, or about the same things in different words. Daniil Andreyev compares different major religions to different paths leading to one and the same mountain peak (which he uses as a metaphor for God). Andreyev names five world religions: ChristianityHinduismBuddhismJudaism and Zoroastrianism. Andreyev believes in the Trinity of God, but regards the third hypostasis not as the Holy Spirit, but as the Eternal Feminine.

Mira is a feminine given name with varying meanings. In the Romance languages, it is related to the Latin words for “wonder” and “wonderful.”[1][2] In the various Slavic languages, it means “peace” and is often used as part of a longer name, such as Miroslava (masculine form: Miroslav) or Sławomira (masculine form: Sławomir). In Sanskrit, it means “ocean”, “sea”, “limit” or “boundary”[3] In Hebrew, it is a derivative of Miriam[4][5] or the female equivalent of Meir, meaning light.[6][7]

Sunshine Daydream is a music documentary film starring the rock band the Grateful Dead. It was shot at their August 27, 1972 concert at the Old Renaissance Faire Grounds in Veneta, Oregon.[1][2] Unreleased for many years, the movie was sometimes shown at small film festivals, and bootleg recordings of it circulated on VHS and DVD, and as digital downloads. A digitally remastered and reedited official version of the film was released on August 1, 2013, showing only one time in selected theaters.[3][4][5][6] It was screened with Grateful Days, a new documentary short that includes interviews with some of the concert attendees. Sunshine Daydream was released on DVD and Blu-ray on September 17, 2013.

Sunshine Daydream is also a live album containing the complete August 27, 1972 Grateful Dead concert. Produced as a 3–disc CD and as a 4-disc LP, it was released by Rhino Records on September 17, 2013.[7]

The name Sunshine Daydream is taken from the coda section of the Dead song “Sugar Magnolia“.

The show was a benefit for the Springfield Creamery in nearby Springfield, Oregon.[9] Merry Pranksters Ken Kesey and Ken Babbs emceed the concert. The Dead played all afternoon and into the dark after an opening set by the New Riders of the Purple Sage. In 2004, the New Riders’ performance was released as an album called Veneta, Oregon, 8/27/72.

Springfield Creamery got its start in 1960, when Chuck and Sue Kesey graduated from college and returned home to Springfield, Oregon. Chuck, brother of author Ken Kesey (“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”) and Sue, with support from Chuck’s father Fred Kesey (manager of Eugene Farmers Creamery in Eugene) supplied gallon glass returnable jugs of milk to other creameries. They also supplied the Springfield schools with milk each school day.

By 1969, things had changed. Chuck’s father had recently passed away, the dairy industry was in transition and the sixties natural foods movement was in full bloom. “We needed something to niche us, so we could remain independent, to create a brand of our own,” says Sue Kesey. “We knew that if we were going to survive, we were going to have to do something that was different from everyone else. We had to find something unique.”

What they found, in 1970, was yogurt. Nancy Hamren had moved to Oregon from San Francisco and was working at the creamery as a bookkeeper. Nancy had a strong dedication to doing things the natural way, and a love for yogurt that she’d inherited from her natural foods pioneering grandmother.

Chuck and Nancy started experimenting with making yogurt with acidophilus cultures. They sold it in glass canning jars and five-gallon buckets at Willamette People’s Coop and Porters Fine Foods in Eugene, Ore. and became the first creamery in the U.S. to sell acidophilus cultured yogurt. “We never used sugar,” says Nancy. “We cooked our own fruit and added vanilla and honey.”

One day the manager from Willamette People’s Coop called and said ‘give me some more of that Nancy’s Yogurt.’ Sue says, “We thought, well, that sounds better than ‘Chuck’s Yogurt.’” The Nancy’s brand was born.

Nancy’s Yogurt expanded to the Bay Area thanks to two young entrepreneurs — a University of Oregon graduate named Gilbert Rosborne and his partner, music legend Huey Lewis. “They had an underground comic book route, delivering the Fabulous Furry Brothers and R. Crumb comics to natural food stores in San Francisco,” says Nancy. “Once a week, they rented a U-haul and packed it up with ice and Nancy’s Yogurt and drove it down to the Bay Area. Somehow, people there connected Nancy’s Yogurt with Chuck’s brother, Ken Kesey. It took off.”

[edit] A Grateful Dead Solution

But 1972 was a hard year financially. In an imaginative move, Chuck Kesey went down to Marin County and talked the Grateful Dead into coming up to Eugene and doing a benefit concert for the creamery. It was an epic event. More than 20,000 people attended. The tickets were printed on Nancy’s Yogurt labels, and a movie was made of the concert entitled ‘Sunshine Daydream.’ Grateful Dead Concerts became a tradition after that, with 10 more concerts in the following years. “It always seemed like we had more awareness after those concerts,” Nancy says. “Not that we ever put up banners saying ‘brought to you by Nancy’s Yogurt,’ but concertgoers knew we were part of these events and we were part of this alternative culture that was music, natural foods and natural living.”

[edit] Nancy’s Expands

As demand for natural foods continued to grow, more natural foods stores opened and Nancy’s Yogurt expanded to store shelves in Portland and Seattle. But the natural foods industry was still very regional. As distribution became more dependable, Nancy’s Yogurt was one of the first natural food products to be distributed far from its production location.

And in time they reached out to the mainstream markets. “We had a lot of conversations with our smaller natural food customers in the late 70’s, not wanting us to sell to mass market stores,” says Sue. “But our mission has always been to get the best food at the best price to the most people. When the Safeways and Fred Meyers of the world came knocking on our door and said we’d really like to stock your product, it completely blew us away. It was one of the first natural food breakthroughs into mainstream markets, and it’s been a wonderful relationship now for nearly 25 years.”[[1]]
