I awoke from my old man nap around 11:15, and had a vision of a Temple of Knights being built on International Way, near the Church of Later Day Saints. I have proven the Knights Templar owned the Shroud of Turin when I did my genealogy and looked at the Rougemont name. The Temmp;ars were disbanded by orders of the Pope. Many of the joined the Knight Hospitilars.
Around 11:40 PM, I watched the alleged peace proposal that was later delivered to the Palastians. It was the first time they saw it. It looks like a take it – or else! Netanyahu insulted the Democrat party, saying no Democrat President did anywhere near what Trump did for the Seed of Abraham, then made light of Trump being unaware the Abraham Accord referedd to the Prophet Moses – who saw God! Did Sistar Francis Clare – see the Virgin Mary – who she claimed talked to her. I see a copy of the Shroud of Turin in the Knight Templar Hall of Saint Francis, that is dedicated to bringing Good Health to all Orgonians, All Califonians, and all the nations of the world!

One of the first colleges in Oregon was burned down – twice! Arson is suspected. I believe a man loyal to the cause of Joseph Lane is the culprit. Could it have been my hero, Joaquin Miller, who graduated from Columbia with about twenty others. There was a schism. John Dicky was an abolitionist preacher who co-founded Columbia. Was Miller, like Paul, blinded by the light, he seeing the error of his way, and turning his life around? Did Harry Lane see the error of his grandfather’s way, and make a precise plan to not be like him?
In the De-naming game I find myself in the thick of, I decided to go all the, by De-naming the United States of America – because We the People – have never been united. End the hypocrisy – now! How about ‘Laneland’? Two generations of the Lane family dwelt in Jamestown that was an experimental city. This might be America’s first Hippie Town…..Bohemianville if you will!
Two days ago I watched Ken Burn’s ‘Vietnam’. It was painful from the start. Being a Anti-War Demonstrator, I grieved at the loss of time and my youth – all our youths! In a Land Deed signed by his son Joseph LANE Sr, it states that: “Deed from Joseph Lane and Julian his wife of Isle of Wight County, Sept. 4, 1710, to Thomas Lane, of Surrey County 200 acres given me by my father (Thomas Lane, patent 1682) in his last will and testament (father Thomas Lane, patent 1682). Columbia College was a college in Eugene in the U.S. state of Oregon. Founded in 1856, the school was part of a system of churches established by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The school’s building burned down twice before the school closed in 1860. Today, the neighborhood in Eugene where the school was located is known as College Hill due to the former college.

After the Cumberland Presbyterian Church split from the Presbyterian Church in 1810, the newer branch sought to found schools to educate ministers for future service in the church.[1] As early as 1851, church leaders in Oregon discussed starting a school in what was then the Oregon Territory.[1] Then at a meeting in Washington County on April 7, 1853, leaders created a committee to make plans for a school.[1] That committee consisted of J. A. Cornwall, D. H. Bellknap, and James Henry Dickey Henderson, who on October 5 of that year presented a report recommending that funds be raised to establish a Presbyterian school in the territory.[1]
The committee recommended raising $20,000 to start the school by selling scholarships at $100 each.[1] They also said the college should be located between what was then Eugene City in the southern Willamette Valley and Lafayette at the northern edge of the valley.[1] By December 1853 the plan was approved and the church began advertising to raise the funds.[1] In 1854, a new committee was formed with Jacob Gillespie and Mr. Snodgrass, among others, to select the location for the new school, with the committee choosing Eugene on October 5, 1854.[1] Gillespie, who was serving in the Oregon Territorial Legislature, then introduced a bill in order to secure a charter for the college on January 11, 1855.[1]
At that point the school was named Pacific College, but was changed by the legislative committee to Columbia College.[1] That committee, consisting of Gillespie, Asa L. Lovejoy, and Delazon Smith, returned the bill to the main assembly after a single day of consideration.[1] A vote to pass the bill on January 17, 1855, was tabled by David Logan, but he then moved for a vote on January 20, and the bill passed, becoming law on January 24.[1] The original charter called for a co-ed school, and was given to the church April 7, 1855.[1] In May 1855, the board of trustees met for the first time and selected Samuel Dillard as the president of the board, and by October had secured 20 acres (8.1 ha) adjacent to Eugene and a 24-foot (7.3 m) by 48-foot (15 m) building to house the school was under construction.[1] By August 1856, Enoch Pratt Henderson (brother of James Henry), a minister was hired to serve as president of the college, which he did from November 3, 1856 until September 19, 1859.[1][2] The school opened on November 3, 1856, but did not start classes until November 17 with 52 students.[1]
The school’s new building burned soon after it opened, on November 20, in what was believed to be arson.[1] Two-days later classes resumed at a rented home while plans were made to re-build.[1] Within two-years enrollment grew to 150 students and a new building was finished.[1][3] Classes were primarily preparatory classes during the existence of the college.[1] The second structure completed in November 1857 was meant to be temporary, and it was, as it burned on February 26, 1858.[1] Columbia tried to rebuild again, this time building a two-story building faced with sandstone.[1] However, the new structure was not finished before the college closed.[1]
Closure and legacy[edit]
Conflict between church denominations lead to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church withdrawing their financial support for the school.[3] The conflict arose, in part, as the debate over slavery raged in the east in what would eventually result in the American Civil War.[1] Parts of the church, based in Kentucky, supported slavery, while others were abolitionists.[1] Slavery supporters attempted to gain control of the school’s board of trustees, and eventually did in 1859, causing president Henderson to resign in 1859.[1] M. I. Ryan then became the principal, who was pro-slavery, and in June 1860 he assaulted Byron J. Pengra before fleeing back east.[4] The school also suffered from internal division over if religion should be taught in the school, as well as plans for another school in the Oregon Territory.[1]
Meanwhile, Henderson sued the school for past wages, which led to the school declaring bankruptcy and closing its doors in 1860.[1][2] The unfinished sandstone building stood until 1867 when it was torn down and some stones were used in the construction of a store on Willamette Street.[1] The College Hill neighborhood in Eugene was named after Columbia College.[2] In 1906, the city dedicated a monument to the school, located at Olive and Nineteenth.[1]

There once were two Kesey Murals in Springfield. My friend Nancy described the first one and got one of names of the artists, right, so I was able to restore the lost description of the mural that was painted on the outside wall of the The Creamery that Chuck told me the town leaders hated.
“It was the only mural for a hundred miles around, and, it had to go!” Said the husband of Sue Kesey, and brother-in-law of Ken.
“There was a caldron with marijuana plants!” Nancy, of yogurt fame, added.
“Wasn’t there a Unicorn?” asked I.
Behavioral Health Campus in Lane County
Lane County and PeaceHealth have formed a strategic partnership to acquire land located off International Way in Springfield with the goal of building a behavioral health care campus. The campus will be home to PeaceHealth’s new 96-bed Timber Springs Behavioral Health Hospital on their parcel, and immediately adjacent Lane County will construct the Lane Stabilization Center.
The campus will be a huge leap forward in being able to complete the behavioral health continuum of care and provide critical services for communities across Lane County. The close proximity of these two facilities will mean better outcomes for those who access services and for our partners who will be supporting individuals in accessing care.
Lane County is currently in an 180-day due diligence phase, during which they are seeking public input.

Rename Franklin Street – Harry Lane

The City of Springfield has the opportunity right a great wrong. I suggest Franklin Street be renamed Harry Lane Way, because Harry’s grandfather was one of the world’s greatest racist and pro-slavery candidates. Joseph Lane led wars against Native Americans. This renaming can get national attention. This is much more that bringing down a Confederate statue. If the change is not possible, perhaps there is going to be a new street by the river, that can bare the name, Harry Lane. A plaque can explain why. Erasing the name Lane from all public records, would be impossible. Harry is a symbol of progress, that trumps Joseph’s history. Harry Lane was a Pacifist, and perhaps the first Democratic Progressive.

Glenwood and George Miller

I propose a newspaper museum for the New Glenwood, and the naming of the George Miller Highway from Florence to Winnemucca. I would like to see Glenwood renamed Fairmont, after the city that was swallowed by Eugene.
Elizabeth Maude “Lischen” or “Lizzie” Cogswell married George Miller. Lizzie was the foremost literary woman in Oregon. On Feb. 6, 1897, Idaho Cogswell, married Feb. 6, 1897, Ira L. Campbell, who was editor, publisher and co-owner (with his brother John) of the Daily Eugene Guard newspaper. The Campbell Center is named after Ira.
The Wedding of John Cogswell to Mary Frances Gay, was the first recorded in Lane County where I registered my newspaper, Royal Rosamond Press. Idaho Campbell was a charter member of the Fortnightly Club that raised funds for the first Eugene Library. Joaquin Miller was the editor of Eugene’s first newspaper the Democratic Register, and the Eugene City Review.
George Melvin Miller was a frequent visitor to ‘The Hights’ his brothers visionary utopia where gathered famous artists and writers in the hills above my great grandfather’s farm. The Miller brothers promoted Arts and Literature, as well as Civic Celebrations. Joaquin’s contact with the Pre-Raphaelites in England, lent credence to the notion that George and Joaquin were Oregon’s Cultural Shamans. Joaquin took part in the City Beautiful movement. George platted the city of Florence and Fairmont that was located next to Franklin Street. George was the promoter of a highway from Crescent City to Winnamucca, that was going to be a National Highway to New York. With new highways, I am promoting the Florence to Winnamucca route that traverses the Fremont Highway, named after the ‘Pathfinder’ who explored and mapped the Oregon Territory.

Oregon Route 31 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Oregon that runs between the Central Oregon cities of La Pine and Lakeview. OR 31 traverses most of the Fremont Highway No. 19 of the Oregon state highway system,[2] named after John C. Frémont. The entire length of OR 31 is part of the Outback Scenic Byway, though the byway extends further south beyond the end of OR 31, to the California border.

Belushi’s Animal House Car

A funny thing happened to me on the way to the Lane County Historical Society & Museum, I found the car John Belishi drove at the end of the movie ‘Animal House’. It is located inside a vintage warehouse located on Franklin Street a hundred yards from where a convention center is to be built. This building and about twelve homes were under the wrecking ball ten years ago when a company owned by Dubai royalty tried to buy up this property in order to build a hotel apartment complex. Five years ago I was introduced to Jim who owned a home on Brooklyn Street that Dubai and Sid Leiken wanted to buy – and tear down. Jim is an old Bohemian who along with his neighbors, asked a million dollars for his land. This nixed the deal with Dubai.
Now, the same plan is back under new names. There exist an extensive study made in 2006, paid for by the tax payers – that is being hidden. The Stakeholders were not summoned again to view the Son of Glenwood. I will be meeting with the archivest at the Lane Museum this morning. When I suggested she acquire Belushi’s car, she said there was no room for it. I told her this car would bring folks from all over the world to look at it, and thus, there would be visitors, verses, no visitors! The question I will be putting forth in my blogs for the next week, is.. Why build a convention/hotel complex using tax payers money, when there is nothing TO SEE when the out-of-towners get here, because our City Leaders keep tearing down, and throwing away, the NORMAL STUFF most folks want to city in other cities! My friend Kenny Reed appeared in a documentary about the making of Animal House, along with Izzy, a Merry Prankster.
What we got here is that classic movie where a town of Small People are being pushed around by a Big Developer who is backed by Oil Sheiks from Dubai who want to build a giant Crescent Moon with Star in the heart of Springtucky.
Bluto’s son is the King of the Belusihi Bohemians who live in Gypsy wagons camped down by the river, and is married to Esmerelda, the Dancing Goat Girl, who leads a band of merry campers against the Evil Axis of Apex, and the legal team put together by Bill Gate’s father who wins a legal battle to prevent Esmerelda’s goats from grazing on the grass by the river. When all seems lost, the Tea Party Stakeholders come riding to the rescue.
El Sid Laiken went to college with the royal brothers from Dubai whose names escape me. They have gone underground, and was on the team to bring Dubai royalty into our valley.

I am going to found a Bohemian Government in the Emerald Valley that will conduct the normal business Bohemians have been conducting for centuries. We’ll just pretend elected officials don’t exist. The local development group, Glenwood H&CC LLC, announced the project April 2. The group said it has secured the money needed to build the 150-suite riverfront hotel behind the Ramsey Waite equipment dealership. They estimate the hotel would cost nearly $26 million.
Five days later, the Springfield City Council committed up to $2.5 million in public funds over the next decade to help build the adjacent conference center, estimated to cost $17.1 million. The council made the decision quickly and with no discussion.

Rose City Planners
On this day, August 30, 2018, I found, Rose City Planners, a International Company that will pull together the best team of City Planners – possible! During the Great Depression many artists were funded by the WPA to produce civic works of art. Today, our cities have been forever enriched by the work of these magnificent artists who were not out to become famous. They gave way more that they received. Their historic contributions can be added on to, if their common philosophy is understood – and harnessed! These men considered themselves Bohemians.
Many city planners and city governments understand that We The People want our downtowns to have a Bohemian flavor and look. This is the recipe that attracts people. Unfortunately, many city governments are hiring outsiders, Bohemian pretenders, who put the Capitalist Quick Buck Masters at the top, and the artist down at the bottom next to Vegetable Stands. These frauds keep saying they are protecting our city history and founding fathers, but – they lie! When my company gets off the ground we will do a through research to see how much history, and Bohemian Culture was bulldozed into the ground. Much can still be saved – if you know how!
Rose City Planners will reach out to foreign cities, and establish a Cultural Exchange. I am looking for Japanese Investors, and backers for ‘The Royal Janitor’. I founded ‘The Wandering Star Studios. I am poised to take over the work of J.R. Tolkien, also. I will relocate my company to Portland Oregon.

Ina Coolbrith gave Joaquin Miller his look that he took to England where he read his poems to the Queen. The Pre-Raphaelite Artists took him in. Miller was a friend of my grandmother. The original hippies of the Bay Area were influence by Miller, Ina, London, and Sterling. Miller made a life-size statue of my kin, John Fremont, who looks west from the heights of Oakland. El Capitan looks like Gandalf.

Peter photographed my kindred, Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor for LIFE magazine, and Errol Flynn. who my mother and aunt dated. Ralph was good friends Diego Rivera and his artistic wife. These creative Bohemian souls were the compatriots of David Weston and his Muses. Ralph did a painting of Tina Modotti wearing pearls. David is the model for Frank Rosefish. Errol Flynn is a model for Don Roscoe.

Thomas Hart Benton did lithographs and a painting for John Steinbeck’s ‘Grapes of Wrath’. This is huge! This puts a Literary Giant in the Benton Family Creative Tree. How could the three Rosamond biographers have missed this? Here’s a huge clue?
I am overwhelmed by the History I appear to be the Caretaker of. For this reason I am founding Royal Rosamond College, and am seeking funding.
There are two world famous artists with the last name BENTON. Thomas Hart Benton, and Christine Rosamond Benton. Not one of the three authors that were blessed by attorney Sydney Morris to publish Rosamond’s biography, put these two artists together in their lying biographies that humiliated Christine, her mothers, and her teacher.
Above is a photograph of a man humiliating one of Thomas’ works of art. People all over the world express their outrage. Wait till they read about Faulkner’s ‘Dunkin The Frog’ that was going to put into the public domain as a Rosamond. Not only is this Art Forgery, it is a direct attack on the Creative Language that Artists speak to each other with – for free!
In two of the three works of art above, we see artists who were members of the Synchromism movement. Stanton Macdonald-Wright did ‘Yin Synchrom’ in 1925, and Thomas Hart Benton did ‘The Rape of Persephone’ in 1939. Is Benton sending a message to Stanton, saying he is beholding to his influence, or, did it just turn out this way in what Carl Jung titled synchronicity? Stanton included Gloria Stuart in one of his murals. Is Stuart’s painting of a nude – with tiger – part of this messaging? Is she saying;
“Don’t leave me out, don’t forget about me – you Bohemian good ol boys!”

On this day, July 6, 2018, I give new life to The Wandering Star Studio. I am now seeking backers for WSS in China, Japan, Canada, France, and England. I am going to ask David Lynch if he will represent my studio.
The United States of America, before it became a Nations, was made up of diverse peoples from all over the world. The Constitution does not describe a certain race of peoples as owners of this Freedom Land. It belongs to all citizens. The laws for being a citizen, and becoming a citizen have been established. However, there is always room for improvement.
It is becoming evident, that many people who voted for Donald Trump, did so believing he would grant them a special citizenship that is not mentioned in the U.S. Constitution. This idea is creating Disunity that grows each day, because it is being nurtured by propaganda. This propaganda is being spread to the rest of the world in Trump’s Trade Wars that no U.S. Citizen voted for, or, expected.
It is the mission of Wandering Star Studio to show how it took many diverse people to make up this great country of ours. Most of these people were not indigenous. they came here from all over the world, following a…………….Wandering Star!
Trade Wars are creating a very destruction Isolationtionism that will stifle our economy and our people. We will lose our creative edge that blossoms from open minds, verses closed minds. American and World Culture needs to explore new ways to work and create together so we may all own a Universal Culture that betters the lives of all people.
My Art Dynasty

Macdonald-Wright was a significant presence and a charismatic personality in the Los Angeles art scene for the next several decades. He was the director of the Southern California division of the Works Project Administration Federal Art Project from 1935 to 1943,[12] and personally completed several major civic art projects, including the murals in Santa Monica City Hall. After World War II, MacDonald-Wright became interested in Japanese art and culture, which led to the renewal of synchromist elements in his work. He taught art for many years at UCLA and also kept studios in Kyoto and Florence.

Folk Festival at Zorthian Ranch

In 1965 I attended a party at the Zorthian Ranch with my childhood friend, Nancy Hamren (whose grandmother owned the recipe for Nancy’s Yogurt) and Barry and Seyburn Zorthian, the daughter’s of the artist, Jirayr H. Zorthian, who was influenced by Thomas Hart Benton. Thomas is the cousin of the muralist, Garth Benton who married my late sister, the world famous artist, Christine Rosamond Benton. These four women and myself would live in a commune in San Fancisco, our rent paid by Betty Zorthian, the heiress of the William’s Shave fortune. Seyburn is an artist.Zorthian and I discussed art up in his studio while beautiful young L.A. Godesses soared on the trampoline to ‘Gloria’.

Royal Rosamond Press was founded in 1997 as a newspaper dedicated to the protection, and the preservation of The Arts. The attack upon the Rosamond-Benton Creative Legacy began minutes after my late sister, Christine Rosamond Benton, was pronounced dead. My un-talented brother and sister kept me from the meeting that was held in my famous sister’s house in Pebble Beach. They got behind a Art Forger and her biography that another ghost writer completed. Not once is the world-famous artist Thomas Hart Benton, mentioned in their book if lies.
Today, I announce I am the protector and preserver of Thomas’ artistic legacy, and guardian-caretaker of the Lost Synchromism Movement co-founded by Stanton MacDonald Wright. This movement is under attack by Oscar de la Torre and AIM.
Today I saw our black President give a speech for the 150th Anniversry of the Emancipation of Slaves. However, my kindred, Jessie Benton, and her husband, John Fremont, emancipated the slaves of Missouri several years before.
“Latino activist Oscar de la Torre declared war on the 74-year-old art work last week and vowed to launch a campaign to “take this mural down”
Calling it “the Santa Monica confederate flag,” De la Torre said the mural is an insult to Native Americans because it shows them “bowing down to the Spaniards who came and oppressed and murdered and committed genocide in the Americas.”
When you look to the source of the water from which the people drink you see a waterfall that is rendered in the style of Chinese and Japanese paintings. This is deliberate. Is Stanton recognizing the Asian roots of Native Americans? Yes. He is not re-routing these roots to men of the cross as Oscar claims. I think he came to demonstrate at the Santa Monica City Hall, where he, or someone pointed out Stanton’s mural, and, how it could be used to keep funding for Oscar’s cause.
I believe Oscar then contacted the American Indian Movement to bring more pressure on the elected officials. What is truly Synchromistic is that Stanton’s interest in Asia gives come credence to the establishment of Japantown in the Sawtelle, where proponents used terms like “our ancestors”.
“It’s a broad-based, historical commemoration of our ancestors settling Sawtelle 100 years ago,” said the 76-year-old Tanaka.”
Documentary crew returns to recount ‘Animal House’ filming

Many longtime Cottage Grove residents can recall a raucous parade that occurred downtown on Main Street in 1978. Today, scenes from that day live on as the zany finale to the highest-grossing comedy film of all time, Warner Bros.’ Animal House, and last week, a documentary film crew returned to the scene of the action to recount the part Cottage Grove played in film history. The documentary, “Animal House of Blues,” started as a project for a group of students at the University of Oregon, according to its creator, Katherine Wilson. “The class covered films of interest from the 1970s,” she said. “But after the class ended, my students told me that they needed to be interns and get some experience, that they wanted to make a movie.” Wilson said her students wanted to help her complete “Animal House of Blues,” a project she’d sought to finish herself for over a decade. “I’d been trying for 10 years, and it was going to cost me $100,000,” she said. “But we got to work, and the kids had everything I didn’t. We shot a short film in five weeks, and the students graduated with honors. Then they started telling me that they wanted to make the whole thing (the entire film.)” Wilson knew she couldn’t afford the licensing from Warner Bros. necessary to include parts of ‘Animal House’ in her own film, but she and her students entered their documentary in the Eugene International Film Festival anyway. There, ‘Animal House of Blues’ received an award for best documentary, and soon after, Wilson was meeting with representatives from Lion’s Gate and ABC Video about preparing the film for worldwide distribution. She said the film is slated for release in May, and last week, she rounded up a cast of characters to film scenes reminiscent of those in the original ‘Animal House’ and the anniversary toga party that happened here in 2003, an event Wilson called “the most incredible thing any town has ever put on.” For the complete article see the 02-13-2013 issue.
Ken Kesey‘s brother Chuck, and Chuck’s wife Sue started the Springfield Creamery in 1960, and the business survives today based partly on sales of their flagship product, Nancy’s Yogurt, developed from recipes of Nancy Hamren. In the 1970s, the Creamery staved off bankruptcy with the help of the rock band the Grateful Dead, who over time held a series of 10 benefit concerts on behalf of the creamery.[citation needed]

The project would be the third attempt at a major redevelopment project in Glenwood in about the past decade. In 2006, the city picked Apex Investment Group, an international development firm, to redevelop a 48-acre stretch of riverfront between Franklin Boulevard and the river. Apex later dropped out, saying market conditions were unfavorable. The city had rejected another development proposal from a local group that included Greg Vik, president of a local construction company who is now a member of Glenwood H&CC LLC. Vik and his partner then proposed building a hotel with a 50,000-square-foot convention center in Glenwood, but that project never got off the ground. Richard Boyles, president and co-founder of Springfield-based InnSight Hotel Management Group, which manages about a dozen hotels in Oregon and Washington, remains skeptical of the latest Glenwood project. Boyles said Vik approached him a year or two ago about joining the project. Boyles passed on the venture. Boyles questioned whether there is a enough conference business to make the project profitable. He also wondered whether conference bookers will be keen to hold events at that location when some attendees would have to stay elsewhere. “Its time will come,” Boyles said of Glenwood. “But to lead that redevelopment with a hotel I didn’t feel would be a successful venture.” Allen Lonstron, another member of the local development group, acknowledged that attendees would have to stay at other hotels in the area until Glenwood redevelops with more hotel rooms. But he said that’s typically the case with conference centers and doesn’t see it as a setback. Boyles is “partly right because we don’t have enough (full-service) hotel rooms,” Lonstron said. “That’s not going to keep us from having business.” Lonstron said the Eugene-Springfield area has fewer rooms and meeting space at full-service hotels, which include rooms, meeting space and in-house food service, than it did a decade ago. The area has three full-service hotels: the Hilton Eugene, the Valley River Inn and the Holiday Inn Eugene/Springfield. The Lane Events Center and Lane Community College have meeting space but no hotel rooms on site. They’re not alone The hotel and conference center proposal comes as developers increasingly focus on Glenwood. Next door to the proposed hotel site, two developers are scheduled to begin construction on a $22 million affordable-housing development next year that also will receive government subsidies. When completed, it would feature two or three buildings with 150 apartments, ground-floor commercial spaces and meeting rooms. “This is an important opportunity for the community to further develop Glenwood while providing much needed affordable housing,” said Richard Herman, executive director of the nonprofit Cornerstone Community Housing, one of the partners in the project.

Director Leiken asked if SEDA members were allowed to contact representatives of the
Portland Development Corporation about its experience with APEX. SEDA Attorney Joe
Leahy stated that since no decision regarding a contract with APEX would be made at the
current meeting, such contact was permitted.

Mr. Tamulonis reviewed previous consideration of a request from the Southwestern
Oregon Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for matching funds for a
grant it had received to conduct an Urban Riverfront Corridor Study. He said he had
received support for the project from Apex representatives.
Mr. Tamulonis reported that Glenwood Society for Livable Communities, a committee
made up of area residents, had been formed and would be considered for official recognition
at a later date.
He explained that it would include a series of forums and charrettes bringing together
civic leaders and interested citizens to shape a vision for its future. He said the Franklin
Urban Riverfront Corridor Study was the only project funded in the state of Oregon.
Mr. Paz said the study would be the first comprehensive urban design analysis of the
main linkage between Eugene and Springfield and their shared riverfront. He noted
that the description of the project recognized that limited “piece-meal” studies that had
been conducted which were focused on commercial real estate development and corresponding
zoning issues. He emphasized the value of the partnership of the University
of Oregon in the project. He said the grant matching funds being requested from
SEDA and the City of Eugene would enable publication of the findings of the study.
Eric Gunderson stated that he also represented the Southwestern Oregon AIA Chapter.
He distributed copies of AIA Architecture, published by the chapter containing information
about the project, and a document entitled “Bridging Communities: Franklin
Corridor Study 2007 – It’s All Here.” He reviewed plans for workshops to be included.
He emphasized the comprehensive nature and significance of public involvement in it.
Director Ralston asked if the end-product of the study would have a practical use. Mr.
Paz replied that the study was more than an “educational exercise” and would be embedded
in the community. He said administrative staffs of Eugene, Springfield, and
University of Oregon supported the project, as did the Mayor of Eugene and Lane
Transit District (LTD). He said outcomes of the study would include recommendations
for streetscape designs and setback studies. He said it was not intended to develop
uniform standards for the entire corridor, but be based on conversations with interested
design professionals and citizens regarding each subsection. He said its main
value would be to provide a comprehensive view of the entire study area.
Director Lundberg said she believed the studies were a natural next step in the redevelopment
of Glenwood and would need to be done even without the involvement of
the APEX proposal. She said she was interested in the possibility of a quid pro quo
response from APEX.
Director Stewart said he had heard APEX representatives express the need for updated
market studies before it made a final decision to go forward with its redevelopment
proposal. He suggested that SEDA funding of the proposed studies was a “good
faith” gesture and that he did not believe SEDA was in a position to request that APEX
share the cost.
Director Pishioneri moved, seconded by Director Leiken, to request that the City
of Springfield contract with Leland Consulting Group for market and feasibility
studies of properties in the Glenwood Riverfront area; and to provide for SEDA
reimbursement to the City for the proposed services.
Legal Counsel Joe Leahy stated that SEDA did not have contracting policies in place
and the motion would facilitate establishing the needed legal arrangements for the
studies. He said he had received assurances from other Civil Attorneys that the arrangement
was appropriate and efficacious. He said if the motion was adopted, an
agreement for its implementation would be presented at the next SEDA meeting.
The motion was adopted unanimously, 8:0.
E. Outside Legal Counsel
Mr. Leahy referred to Agenda item support material regarding a proposal to engage
Preston Gates & Ellis, LLP as additional legal counsel for matters related to developing
SEDA agreements with APEX, determined to be the preferred developer for the Glenwood
Riverfront area. He explained how the proposed arrangement with Timothy Sercombe
of the Portland law firm would be cost effect and said he was well experienced
in the both the type of negotiations that would be involved and the Glenwood area. He
said the proposed arrangement would also avoid any possibility of conflict of interest
with his responsibilities as Springfield City Attorney.
Director Leiken said he concurred with the recommendation of Mr. Leahy, as he was
familiar with both the firm and attorney proposed

Claiming Kesey Square

On January 25, 2016, a entertaining and dedicated group of Citizens of Eugene marched to Wayne Morris Free Speech Plaza where we signed up to speak before the Mayor and City Council. Zane Kesey made an impassioned appeal to keep the Square, and the discussion about its fate, open. I go FURTHER than that. I declare it a done deal! History itself claims the Square. They can not take away OUR HISTORY!

Allow me to introduce George Melville Miller ‘The Prophet of Lane County’ and the brother of Joaquin Miller, who went to the University of Oregon after it was founded, and was the editor of Eugene’s first newspaper. George platted Florence and Fairmont, a city that was consumed by the City of Eugene, that sold a entire block to the UofO that tore down the cottage Ken Kesey lived in while attending the UofO. Jon Ruiz was on T.V. saying these cottages might be saved. I sent him the history of the Miller family, along with the video I made of their lost graves. I got this response;
“Interesting.”
Our alleged City Planners have rendered all the Citizens of Eugene – BEGGARS – when it comes to our traditional culture. In truth, Joaquin Miller put us on the World Map when it comes to Literature and Art – as did Ken Kesey! English History speaks well of our Native Poet, while we……..know him not!

Joaquin Miller was a founder of the Bohemian Club and was part of the City Beautiful Movement. George married into the Cogswell family who are kin to the Campbell family, who owned the Register Guard.
As an advocate for the Homeless, I can say there is no cure for Homelesness, just as there is no cure for Alcoholism, this is why I am working on a Twelve Step program for the homeless. My childhood friend, Nancy, who gave her grandmother’s recipe for yogurt to the Kesey family, was at my graduation from the New Hope program at Serenity Lane in 1987. She got me on The Bus in the Eugene Celebration Parade. We found the artists who rendered the image of the lost Creamery mural. I failed to save Ken’s cottage.
We do not live forever. This is why we have History. Our Mayor is not running again. Look at the Big Picture – and grow strong! I beg you to cast aside your tunnel vision when it comes to the homeless at Kesey Square, and grab all the history I have compiled – and make it yours! From there – we can do wonders! Everyone wants to do wonders!
My health is failing. This history may be lost. I am handing you the history of the Pre-Raphaelites who Joaquin Miller had dinner with. This movement came to America, and can find a home in Eugene. There can be Hand Across the Water, and a real miracle of Civic Responsibility! I know Ken would embrace the Miller Brothers – with joy – because he would know he was not ever alone!
Until we establish the People’s Board of Caretakers, I am History’s Sheriff. We were just invaded by the Bundy Brothers who took over our history and historic artifacts – for a little while! Let it be known, that I will place under citizen’s arrest anyone who vandalizes our Sacred History! Is there a call for a Oregon People’s Board of Caretakers. Mayor Kitty Piercy thinks so and that is why she spoke at the Old Federal Building about EVICTING the Bundyites from property in our State, and leaving the Citizens of Burns, in peace! Isn’t she out of her Jurisdiction? How generous of her to consider the plight of the Burnites!
