A remarkable scene unfolded in the White House State Dining Room on Wednesday as the Trump administration convened a group of independent journalists and online commentators to share stories of violence at the hands of Antifa, an anti-fascist movement with no leadership or organization.
President Donald Trump and top officials vowed to use the full weight of the federal government to bring down Antifa – comparing it to major gangs and drug cartels who they’ve attacked with the US military. They said they’d go after Antifa’s finances and designate it an “international” terrorist organization as they moved to dismantle it.
But Antifa is more of an ideology than an organized national group. And the rhetoric from the president and his top lieutenants on Wednesday is likely to stoke ongoing concerns about a broad crackdown on civil liberties.
Last month, Trump designated Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, but the White House has yet to provide details about how it will crack down on it, given its amorphous nature.
The term Antifa, short for anti-fascist, is used to define a broad group of people whose political beliefs lean toward the left — often the far left — but do not conform with the Democratic Party platform. Unlike militant far-right groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, Antifa has never had a leader, nor is there a hierarchy or a command structure.
It would be a violation of the First Amendment to prosecute all those who subscribed to anti-fascist ideology. While it is illegal to provide “material support” to groups designated by the government as foreign terrorist organizations, there is not an analogous law for domestic groups.
Speaking during the round table, Trump said members of the group “have been very threatening to people, but we’re going to be very threatening to them, far more threatening to them than they ever were with us.”
“And that includes the people that fund them, probably some of the people I know, some of the people I dine with,” he continued. “But if they do, they’re in deep trouble, so we’re going to be looking very strongly at the people that are funding these operations.”
FBI Director Kash Patel pledged that his bureau “will not rest until we find every single seed money, donor organization and funding mechanism that we have.”
Patel said his department is working with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, “who is allowing us to map out these networks through their financial criminal activities, which has been going on for decades.”
Trump later indicated that he would be open to designating Antifa a foreign terror organization when asked, though a US entity cannot be designated as a foreign terror organization. “Does everybody agree?” the president quizzed top officials. “If you agree, I agree. Let’s get it done.”
Attorney General Pamela Bondi compared the movement to the administration’s effort to target cartels.
“Fighting crime is more than just getting the bad guy off the streets. It’s breaking down the organization brick by brick, just like we did with cartels. We’re going to take the same approach, President Trump, with Antifa, destroy the entire organization, from top to bottom. We’re going to take them apart,” Bondi said.
The Trump administration has recently made multiple lethal strikes against boats allegedly operated by drug cartels in the Caribbean, who officials have accused of being “narco-terrorists.”

Trump later asked one of the commentators if he could share the names of those who fund Antifa with Patel, Bondi, or Noem, and said that anyone involved would “probably” be committing “treason.”
Throughout the event, which spanned nearly two hours, the president and panelists repeatedly stoked anti-media sentiment for its coverage of protests across the country, with Trump even quizzing participants, “What network would you say is the worst?”
Patel also offered praise for the independent journalists and commentators in the room, saying some gathered around the table are “reporting the stories live time because the mainstream media won’t cover it.”
“They’re putting their lives on the line, they’re standing up for the flag, the least we can do is stand up for them, so you have my thanks. I read more of your stories than I do theirs,” the FBI director said.
And another conservative activist, Nick Shirley, complained that most legacy media outlets had not bothered to invite him on their airwaves.
Trump closed the event with one final ding at reporters in the room before departing, he said, to address ongoing efforts to secure a Middle East peace deal.

The stop to Portland follows an effort by the Trump administration to portray the city as chaotic and in need of federal troops.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visited Portland’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility Tuesday and met with Gov. Tina Kotek in Portland, as tensions between local leaders and President Donald Trump remained high.
Speaking to OPB’s “Think Out Loud” shortly after they talked, Kotek said she and Noem had a “good conversation.”
“I am not a pushover. We had a very direct conversation, cordial,” the governor said. “She’s going to be meeting with local law enforcement later today, hearing from them about the efforts they have made to maintain calm.”
The Department of Homeland Security has been focused on Portland’s ICE facility for months due to protests that often draw small crowds, but at times have seen hundreds show up to demonstrate against Trump’s push for more aggressive deportations and immigration law enforcement. In reaction to some of those protests, federal officers have used crowd control weapons like tear gas and pepper balls on demonstrators, inflaming tensions.
Kotek said she specially asked Noem that federal officers follow state laws around tear gas use and crowd control weapons, including limiting use in residential neighborhoods, where people who are not participating in protests can be affected.
When the secretary arrived at the ICE facility in South Portland just after noon on Tuesday, Portland Police Bureau officers had blocked off streets and cordoned off observers and protesters.

“In the interest of public safety, Portland Police will provide the same routine support they would for any visiting dignitary,” a statement from the city of Portland said Tuesday.
Portland police spokesperson Mike Benner confirmed that Noem met with Chief Bob Day, as well as Oregon State Police Superintendent Casey Codding and Multnomah County Sheriff Nicole Morrisey O’Donnell.
Since the president turned his focus on Portland a month ago, saying life in the city is “like living in hell,” counter-protesters who support Trump’s push for aggressive immigration enforcement have had a more frequent presence as well. That presence has further escalated disputes between differing groups of demonstrators outside the ICE building and led to several arrests unrelated to federal operations.
City officials, business leaders and residents have contested the White House’s claims that Portland is “war ravaged” due to protests. Those protests have been largely contained to the sidewalk on a single city block in front of the ICE building.
Oregon’s senior Sen. Ron Wyden, a Democrat, was quick to criticize Noem’s visit.
“Kristi Noem is cosplaying as a public official,” Wyden said. “In reality, she’s been sent by Trump to incite violence.”
The Homeland Security secretary’s arrival came days after Portland was thrust into the national spotlight when the Trump administration attempted to federalize and deploy the Oregon National Guard to the city.
That effort was stopped by a Trump-appointed federal judge who said there were no conditions in Portland that warranted the involvement of Oregon military personnel. The president then attempted to deploy California and Texas National Guard members to Portland — an effort that drew further ire from U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut and another court order halting the measures. The Trump administration appealed those orders and the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is expected to weigh in as early as Thursday.
“Recent court decisions have affirmed that Portland does not need federal military intervention, and that our local public-safety approach stands on firm legal ground‚” Portland city staff said in a statement Tuesday.
When explaining her decision to block the president’s National Guard deployments, Immergut said the federal government had failed to prove its assertions that demonstrations outside the ICE facility had disrupted functions at the building or posed a significant enough risk to federal employees that military personnel were needed.
“This is a nation of Constitutional law, not martial law,” Immergut wrote in her initial court ruling on the Oregon National Guard deployment. “Defendants have made a range of arguments that, if accepted, risk blurring the line between civil and military federal power — to the detriment of this nation.”

Despite those rulings, conservative activists and media have streamed nightly from the protests, asserting that federal intervention is required to quell the demonstrations.
Video posted by conservative activist David Medina to his Instagram on Tuesday showed him on the tarmac as Noem’s plane arrived in Portland and then riding in the motorcade that escorted her.
“We’ve arrived at the Portland ICE facility with @sec_noem,” Medina posted.
Medina was convicted for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol and was later pardoned as part of Trump’s blanket clemency order for his supporters that day. He has since rebranded himself as a Trump-aligned social media influencer.
Requests by OPB and other local media to tour the ICE facility had not been granted as of Tuesday.

I met Ed Corben in 1997, the year when everything and everyone was broken. We met in Broken Alley between 18th and 19th, a block from Kindcaid, and the Broken UofO. A week after their parents dropped them off to start school, they were on the corners, rioting. They burned the old couches and funiture grandma gave them, after breaking her heirlooms into pieces. If it wasnt broken, it was – worthless. If it was on fire, they were a hell of lot of fun.
Ed stopped me in the alley while I was riding my broken bicycle home from the library. He picked some books out of my rack, and checked them out. He was impressed. Though, I appeared broken, he commented that there was evidence I had a good mind. I was the new broken being on the block and Ed introduced me to broken Gary. Gary pulled up his pants legs and showed us his bullet and bayonet scars he got in Vietnam. He placed our fingers in the hole in his head, and asked us of we could feel the metal plate. He got that during the Tet Offensive, when our reason for being there, broke down. When Gary was going to die, he gave me his wife to take care of. He trusted me. He said I could take care of her better than he could. I wasn’t so -broken! Barbara was not broken at all, and didn’t need me. She moved out of Broken Alley and we stayed in touch for a little while. She was being – kind.

On September 26, 2015, Darian Fadeley offered Marilyn Reed, her dying husband’s kidney at the DAC during a Landmark Forum meeting. Ed was in the hospital, dying, and Darian came late to the meeting. There was one vacant seat, next to my childhood sweetheart. During an exchange, where one turns to the person next to you and tells them something meaningful, Marilyn tells Darian her husband needs a kidney transplant and in on dialysis. Darian is alarmed, and tells my dear friend she should not keep this to herself, and the more she talks about it, the chances there are for someone to come forward. Darian talks to the doctor at the hospital and orders a test to see if Ed and Kenny are compatible. She is told Ed’s kidney is toast. Kenny is a black Jazz Artist. Darian did not know who Marilyn’s husband was. She did not know he was a black man. She knew he had a medical emergency, and hoped he could be helped if Ed could not. She wanted a part of Ed to go on living. She wanted Hope to spring eternal.
October 7th. was Kenny Reed’s birthday. I read a comment about Kenny. Someone said he and Izzy are the two most important people in Eugene. He knew all the Jazz greats, and played with many of them, including Les McCann, Marilyn’s good friend. Her sister was married to Ron Jefferson, McCann’s drummer.
Last night, Marilyn took me out to dinner and told me Les wrote a song about a blue Volkswagen he loved. Here is the blue bicycle and chair. Kenny appears in front of Eugene’s oldest mural that contains a figure that Marilyn knew for a long time. The muralist saw Julio walking and asked if he could take his picture.
Ed’s kidney was gone, but Kenny is in need of a transplant in order to save his life. I beseech our community and our group of friends, to put away our distractions, our reasons we are in discord, and concentrate on saving our Jazz Icon. This is a peace offering. Last night it occured to me stalkers may go after the pets of famous people in order to get in, and stay in their minds. Pets are often targeted in order to keep up the fear. When he saw my birdfeeder, he accused me of being a tyrant who gets his kicks getting the birds to do my bidding. In the summer, he unscrewed all the lightbulbs in the hall to cool our appartment. I could not see to put my key in my lock. When I objected, he came at me. He said;

I befriend the queen when she was homeless, along with many homeless Punks who crashed next door when I went to Serenity Lane. I began to look for a new abode. Hollis Williams had just moved, as did my friend, Ed Corbin who lived next door to Cheyrl who had just moved to Mc Kenzie Meadows, and told me there was a vacancy below her. When I befriended Kim Hafner four years ago, when she moved in, I told her why I moved here. She made a mental note. She told me she smokes marijuana – which is against the rules – and likes to get scared watching scary movies. She told me she got involved in a Gossip War with a neighbor in her last residence. I did not know she was gossiping about me, and pretended to be my friend (behind a mask) so she can get more juicy stuff. When I leant her my sister’s biography – she went to town! She convinced herself that I was doing all I could to seduce her and have sex with her. She employed my ex-friend Cheyrl who has severe mental problems, and is obsessing about me. She got six other neighbors to go after me, she convincing them I was a dangerous lunatic, who might go berserk. Did she suggest to them I had a assault rifle?
I was a model tenant for seven years before Kim Haffner moved in. I played cards with my neighbors who have passed away, or, moved away. Kim Haffner TERRORIZED my neighbors, and myself. She created an air of violence about to happen any minute. She made my neighbor’s ARAID of me. She rendered me – SUB-HUMAN! She needs to be EVICTED! She used to deliver gleaned food to the four men at Whoville. You are looking at the founders. Haffner has friends who champion the homeless. I suspect this is another reason she went after me. She says that Belle and Alley made her aware I am a dangerous lunatic. Here is that dude with his arm around Kevin wearing a hoodie with skull. If Belle and Ambrose lived here, they would have been evicted after they got arrested.

This morning I have heard the talking heads banter about Gun Control. A woman on Fox said it is a mental health issue, and, We the People must IDENTIFY a potential shooter. In the video I made of my neighbors coming after me, one of my male neighbors says;
“I don’t know how much fire power you have!”
I might be wrong. You have a listen and correct me if I am wrong. What this told me, is, tjis guy has “fire power”. His roommate goes and gets her cellphone to call him up, after she days she is going to summon him in order to beat me up. I have wanted to go to the head managers of Umbrella Properties with this video, but, I am afraid they will identify me as the instigators of all the trouble, and evict me. I suspect their attorneys will suggest to their client, it would be easier to evict one person, rather then four people.
Kevin has respect for me because he knew I was one of the original hippies – who took part in peaceful, non-violent pro-tests that often turned violent! We had very radical young people in our midst, who subscribed to chaos and violent clashes. The Manson Family was a group that concluded violence was the answer. Two followers of Mel Lyman became violent. One was the star of Zabriskie Point.
Kevin is a chalk-artist who renders Celtic symbols. He also writes political messages all over the downtown, where his friend, Alley Valkyrie, became the head of Ken Kesey Revival, a fake art group made up of homeless people. Whoville and SLEEPS are politicizing and weaponizing the Arts and the Homeless. My newspaper was founded to protect The Arts and Bohemians. Belle and her friends knew this before she met with me. They knew WE were on a Collison course.
I highly object to the defacement of the statue of Ken Kesey – and so did Zane Kesey! The anarchists hung a sign around Ken’s neck, and put a bicycle helmet on his head. They altered the work of an artist who was hired by the Kesey family to give a message, being, OUR famous writer enjoyed reading to children.
ALL OUR MESSAGES were rendered meaningless in the last two days. Two young maniacs killed innocent people who went shopping and to their downtown to have fun with their peers.
We no longer need the Anarchists! We no longer need people who insight fellow human being to commit acts of violence. I suggest what is left of the Eugene Anarchist apologize to me, and have THEIR fake abuser report – removed – for this is insightful. Kim Haffner and other neighbors went far with it. Haffner brought my daughter into her mental illness. I told her about the threats I got, and she MADE THEM FRESH, she used them to harass me. To hear her laugh with glee at me feeling ganged up on, is the sound shooters make as they chase fleeing human beings in stores, or down the street!
DISARM!
What I suggest is a…….Year Of Acting Sane……….so we can spot the – truly insane! However, if you are a Happy Lunatic, you can take a test for a license to practice.
Joes Biden just said POTUS is guilty of “dumbing down” the way were communicate with one another. Bell and I got off to a tragic start. She asked me what would a good time to come over and model. I had given her brand new blue Schwinn. I thought about keeping my mouth shut. I thought about me painting her nude, and talking about the good ol bad days of being a hippie! She told me her ambition was to be a radical artist. What kind of picture would we have made? I was a very radical and vocal artist who always spoke my mind. I believed I would become a mentor to Belle. Sometimes, we are called to the real difficult tasks, events, duties – that appear impossible to remedy! There we would all be, shedding our stupidity, and getting down to the real smarts we are capable of. We must work on our National Portrait. Lady Liberty is posing. For a year and half, I knew if I went downtown to a City Council meeting, I would run smack-dab into my nemesis, Alley Valkryrie. I am a prophet. She was the first person I see as I came to overlook Wayne Morris Plaza. Holy crap, I’m right on top of her! She is eight feet away. What are the odds!

I make a beeline for a bush because my heart was racing. It is thumping in my chest! I was not breathing. I felt, faint. We have never been in the same place at the same time. If I had climbed on the bench and beat my chest, then my video would go viral. There would have been a riot and utter chaos as she shouted orders to her bodyguards – that have nothing to lose. I would be chased around the plaza by members of a radical rock group, singing;

Just then, my old neighbor, Kevin is in my lense. He is the oldest radical in town after me. The woman backs off. Suddenly, there goes Alley, across the plaza!
I watch her get in line to go before the mayor. Here is another chance I did not take. I could get in line behind her, and ask for an interview while we wait. Close by is a woman officer of the law. But, this would not stop Alley from whispering to her guard;
“It’s Jon. Go tell my Six Alley Goons to follow him when he leaves the meeting! I want him to feel UNSAFE!”
Are these six goons – Feri trained? ‘How to play the pixie with a broken wing, and intimidate your foes.’
I talk with a young woman of Bohemian extraction. I ask her to take a pic of me holding my trophy! I could not get in due to the crowd.
I am going to be seventy years of age in twenty two days. If I would jump out of a plane with a chute on my birthday, I would fall asleep halfway down. This is exactly the kind of thrill-seeking that makes me feel young. It always has. I am a radical newspaper man. I have scooped the other reporters.

The homeless folks with SLEEPS want to be protected by the 8th. Amendment.
Advocates for the unhoused in Eugene are rallying at Wayne Morse Plaza (8th and Oak) and care oming before the City Council tonight. They point to a recent statement of interest filed by the U.S. Department of Justice that says “making it a crime for people who are homeless to sleep in public places, when there is insufficient shelter space in a city, unconstitutionally punishes them for being homeless.”

The US Department of Justice on August 6, 2015 exerted new federal muscle against local governments that criminalize homelessness . In a United States Letter of Interest in a Boise Idaho case, DOJ stated unequivocally that enforcement of anti-camping laws when there is inadequate shelter is unconstitutional.
Lane County’s One Night Homeless Count has repeatedly validated that Eugene has hundreds of unsheltered homeless citizens. The city’s official website confirms this. Consequently, Eugene’s enforcement of its anti-camping law, 4.815, is unconstitutional.
In the DOJ “Conclusion” in the Boise case, US Attorney Sharon Brett stated, ” If the Court finds that it is impossible for homeless individuals to secure shelter space on some nights because no beds are available, no shelter meets their disability needs, or they have exceeded the maximum stay limitations, then the Court should also find that enforcement of the ordinances under those circumstances criminalizes the status of being homeless and violates the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution.”
“Thus, criminalizing homelessness is both unconstitutional and misguided public policy, leading to worse outcomes for people who are homeless and for their communities,” admonished the DOJ.
Citizens, both housed and unhoused will attend the 7:30 PM Monday, September 14, 2015 meeting of the City Council to demand a moratorium on 4.815, Eugene’s anti-camping ordinance and that all outstanding tickets be suspended or dismissed. The group will also demand a moratorium and suspension of 4.807 Criminal Trespass 2, a “quality of life” charge, and of the Parks Exclusion (Restricted Use) which is given without judicial review in violation of the 4th Amendment “due process’ clause.
The final demand is to put a moratorium on interrupting anyone who is settled to sleep on public land who is not blocking pedestrian or vehicular traffic from dusk to dawn It is intended that the moratoriums remain in place until Eugene develops laws, policies and practices that comply with the US Constitution, Oregon Law and International Law.
