America’s Democracy is on the Eve of Destruction. My Country sent billions of dollars in aid to Europe, and then sent our Military to put down powerful dictatorships. The people of Gaza had no military. Harvard Says It Will No Longer Take Positions on Matters Outside of the University
The policy could ease pressure on the school to issue statements on current events. Officials were criticized for their handling of the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks.

Harvard said on Tuesday that it would now avoid taking positions on matters that are not “relevant to the core function of the university,” accepting the recommendations of a faculty committee that urged the university to dramatically reduce its messages on issues of the day.
If put into practice, Harvard would no longer issue official statements of empathy, which it did for Ukraine, after the Russian invasion, and for the victims of the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks in Israel, for example.
“In issuing official statements of empathy, the university runs the risk of appearing to care more about some places and events than others,” the report said. “And because few, if any, world events can be entirely isolated from conflicting viewpoints, issuing official empathy statements runs the risk of alienating some members of the community by expressing implicit solidarity with others.”
The university’s Institutional Voice Working Group, made up of eight faculty members, issued the report, with a set of principles and a recommended path forward, which the administration and governing board accepted.
Naturalization applications surge from Israelis with German roots

The number of Israelis with German ancestors applying for naturalization has increased, the RND media group reported on Monday, citing Germany’s Federal Office of Administration.
According to the report, 6,869 applications were received from January to April this year, compared to 9,129 in 2023 as a whole and 5,670 in 2022.
Since August 2021, those persecuted by the Nazi regime due to their political, racial, or religious beliefs and their descendants are legally entitled to obtain a German passport.
Descendants of Nazi victims who fled abroad can also obtain German citizenship unconditionally.
Since the attack by the Palestinian militant organization Hamas on Israel on October 7, there has been a significant increase in applications if the trend of the first four months continues.

Actually, Mark had donated money to DIVA and Tom. My ex-friend proudly showed me a plaque with his name on it. The payoff was Tom began to poo-pooh my after-movie-imput, and chose Gall, who he let dribble on for fifteen minutes, no one having a clue what he was saying (like in the video) but, he’s Tom’s Money Man, and Tom admits Hollywood is about who you know.

Not long ago, we reviewed Sam J. Lee’s Moses of the New World the story of the life and work of Baron de Hirsch. It made us de Hirsch-conscious.
In 1896, Rabbi Jacob Voorsanger of San Francisco admired Hirsch’s success in South America and hoped that Baja California might become a new Israel with Hirsch-like help. Voorsanger wrote:
“It is encouraging to learn that the De Hirsch colonies in Argentina are
no failures. In California, we have not been successful with colonization.
Our means were too limited, our lands too rich and expensive. Isolated as we are, locked in between the sea and the mountains, we could not command the attention of the world.
“And yet, there are opportunities here, which, in their extent and character,
are larger than those offered in the sub-equatorial republic.
“Right across from San Diego, in Lower California, an empire is still awaiting fostering hands. The time will come when the inevitable migration of large numbers of colonists must be directed to these sunny slopes, which are Mexican in name only and which have a welcome for all honest men.
“These slopes, coasting a princely area of uncultivated, rich lands, need the exploring power of modern commerce and enterprise, and the impetus of population.
“It is still a comfort to know that whilst governments are restricting the right of admission, and nations cry out against the wanderers from abroad, there is still room elsewhere to make a new cradle forgrowing nations.

Nationalism, one of the strongest forces at large in the world during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and often carrying racist overtones, caught Europe’s Jews in an ugly predicament. On the one hand they found themselves the victims of a new and particularly virulent brand of anti-semitism, while on the other hand they had no nation of their own to which they could turn for sanctuary. This dilemma, plus the growth of their own nationalistic sentiment, resulted during the late 1890s in the birth of the Zionist movement. The movement was aimed at colonizing Jews in their ancient homeland of Palestine, where it was hoped they would eventually constitute a majority and obtain the protection of public law and at least a measure of political autonomy. But there was a question in the minds of some Zionists as to whether or not this goal was feasible with regard to Palestine (then under Turkish rule), and a difference of opinion on this point led to a split in the movement and to the birth, in 1905, of the Territorialist faction. While the main body of Zionists insisted that only Palestine could provide a true Jewish homeland, the Territorialists argued that a more important and pressing consideration was that some suitable place in the world be found. According to Dr. Stern, though it has never appeared in Zionist histories, “Evidence now at hand indicates that the first area which the Territorialists considered was Baja California.”
Stern’s book actually treats several related but somewhat different topics. The first chapter, which covers a period from 1891 to 1905, deals primarily with the interest shown in Baja California by Alta California Jews, especially as an area for settling refugees of the Russlan pogroms. The second chapter, which is as long as the other two combined, is concerned mainly with the lives of three of northern Baja California’s early jewish settlers: Luis Mendelson, Maximiliano Bernstein, and David Goldbaum. Mendelson arrived on the Peninsula in 1871 and the other two men during the 1880s, but each of them came on an individual basis, for strictly personal reasons, and not as part of any organized movement. The third chapter focuses on the interest shown in Baja California by the leadership (in London) of the Territorialist organization, and which occurred in late 1905 or early 1906. Though the leadership’s decision was negative and their interest short-lived, the subject continued to excite a few Alta California Territorialists for some years afterward. The chapter then concludes with Baja California once again under consideration as an area for settling Jewish refugees—this time the German-jewish refugees of the 1930s. But since the idea was announced before first being discussed with Mexican authorities, the latter gave it a decidedly cold reception, one of them referring to it as a “fantastic dream.”

However, there is no evidence to show that he entertained for one moment the notion of their obtaining political autonomy at his nation’s expense. Other considerations aside, Baja California bears too strategic a geographical relationship to the northwestern coast of the Mexican mainland for that country to have willingly agreed to its alienation. Surely little short of United States force could have wrenched it away; yet if this had occurred, can anyone seriously imagine that it would then have been turned over to the Territorialists?
A Santa Monica optometrist, Dr. Stern is the founder-editor of the Western States Jewish Historical Quarterly and has previously published, among other items, California Jewish History, A Descriptive Bibliography. His present book, though relatively short, not only contains a good deal of interesting information but it discloses a noteworthy and hitherto unrevealed facet of Baja California history. And like all the volumes in this series, it is handsomely printed and put together.

reasonable warnings that they were doomed to fail in their mission.
In the age of the computer all of humanity is moving into cyber
space, a virtual reality that comes across all the old borders and
unites us as one people. Islam on the other hand is a religious
movement that desires to unite all Muslims in the Middle East and
create one united territory that will be defined by lines on a map,
but more so by ones loyalty to Mohammed and Allah. It has become
clear Israel can not stand up to, or get in the way of this
imperative.
Therefore, it is time for Israel and Zion to move into cyber space,
and establish a New Capitol in the New Land. I believe I have found
that New Land and Zion in the Channel Islands off the Coast of
California. There are two islands that would be ideal for the
foundation of a New Zion. One is Santa Rosa Island, and the other
Santa Cruz Island. Cruz means “cross” and was named after a staff
capped with a cross that was found by a Indian on the island, and
returned to the Spanish. How Mosaic.
Santa Cruz is a privately owned Island, and Santa Rosa was purchased
in 1980 by the United States Government and is a National Park. I am
not sure if the Channel Islands in the U.S. Territory. I suggest a
proposal be put before President Bush to turn it over the Nation of
Israel after it restructures its foundation, and adopts a less
adversarial view of it place in the world.
I suggest Santa Cruz Island be purchased for Israel by all the
nations of the world, including the President of Iran. With this
purchase will come a truce and a recognition that will never be
contested again.
Twenty six miles away is the city of Los Angeles which has one of
the largest Jewish populations outside Israel. The New Zion of
Rosacruz could be a Capital of a new direction that can move Zionism
into a inner spiritual space that will be surrounded by the Pacific
Ocean. I see a New Atlantis, and new Trade Members of the Pacific
Rim. I see a Capital for World Ecology and World Peace. And even
though we may be losing a pristine part of the world, we may be
saving the world billions of dollars, and much anguish and
destruction due to the never ending Crisis in the Middle East that
is consuming the world’s resources and surpluses that can be
redirected to the problems of global warming, and other sources of
fuel oil. Here is a new Eden that can research how to build new
habitats, invent new attitudes of how Mankind dwells in the Creation.

Santa Cruz Island
Santa Cruz Island is the largest privately owned island off the
Continental United States. The island encompasses 96 square miles or
about 62,000 acres and is approximately 22 miles long. For
comparison, it is over four times the size of Manhattan (22 square
miles) or Bermuda (19 square miles), and is larger that the District
of Columbia (61 square miles). It lies about 22-25 miles off the
adjacent mainland coast of Santa Barbara, California. . In 1987,
9/10ths of the island passed to The Nature Conservancy with the
death of its owner, Carey Stanton. The remaining 1/10th is owned by
the Gherini family, the great grandchildren of Justinian Caire. In
February 1997, the Gherini holdings will pass to the National Park
Service for inclusion in the Channel Islands National Park.

The first all Jewish gymnastic club was formed in 1895 known as the
Israelitische Turnverein Konstantinopel (Israelite Gymnastic
Association Constantinople), it was formed by German and Austrian
Jews residing in Constantinople (Istanbul – Kushta) who were
unwelcome at the German gymnastic societies with their “Aryan –

Los Angeles transplant Tom Blank advocates for local cinema culture

Tom Blank is on a mission.
A Navy veteran and retired director who served his career in television, Blank and his wife moved in 2005 from Hollywood to Eugene, where he immediately took up the cause of advocating for movies as cultural and spiritual artifacts.
Wildly conversant in the history of film and filmmaking, Blank says that cinema is being threatened by unhindered corporate interests and “the explosion of communication devices” that are making the great tradition of going to the movies redundant. Instead of sitting together in grand theaters for the awesome collective experience of watching a movie, too many of us download movies on our cell phones (“Imagine watching Lawrence of Arabia on an iPhone!” Blank says, laughing), and the movies we do view are largely formula rehash that serve as vehicles for product tie-ins.
“It’s possible to hold cinema as a form that becomes your spiritual life,” Blank says. “Cinema itself is mostly threatened by decision makers who don’t understand it.”
Blank, then, is striving to spark local interest in the cultural and artistic value of movies; he refers to himself as an “advocate” of cinema, and this isn’t just talk; he says there’s no reason Eugene can’t develop a strong film community, which includes filmmaking. Along with hosting frequent screenings for Bijou Metro’s Classics Series, Blank also works closely with DIVA’s Shaggy Dog Project, advising on how to make low-cost short films, and continues to spearhead his Behind the Lens seminars at UO’s Baker Center.
Movies, he says, have intrinsic value not just as entertainment and art, but as an index of a person’s spiritual development as a human being. “I feel that we don’t begin to understand ourselves until we take stock of the influences that have made us the people we have become,” Blank says. “I’m often asked what my favorite movie is, and I counter the query by asking which ones have been the most important to them. The way I look at it, our favorite movies are usually those that we saw in our late teens or early twenties, movies that helped us understand who we wanted to become. Your favorite film could easily be the one that changed your mind when your mind was in desperate need of change.”
Blank says “informed viewership” can enrich one’s experience of films, and in this sense he views his role as host of seminars and screenings as predominantly educational. “What you can do is to empower the viewer to understand that his or her reaction is just as valid as anybody else’s,” he says. “I try to use Socratic techniques to elicit emotional responses from the audience. Once we deal with feelings, we can connect to the whole group.”
As for the local film community, Blank says, “People who actively talk about the movies they see are the film community in Eugene.” He asserts, “What remains to be discovered is how our local officials, our institutions and our theaters will facilitate that need for discussion.”
Blank also believes Eugene can foster a healthy environment for folks interested in making movies. “If you were in Los Angeles you would be constrained by film unions and local regulations that support the studios, so if you want to make guerrilla film, you’re always in the best place,” he says. “The ready availability of cheap digital cameras and fast lenses make it all possible. How much are you willing to inconvenience yourself and the people around you in order to make a movie? That’s up to you. There are support networks and organizations that will help.”

This case is enough to scramble the brains of Einstein,” says the hero of CBS’ “Shakedown on the Sunset Strip” (Channels 2 and 8 at 9 tonight). Unfortunately, Harold Gast’s script doesn’t make this case any easier to follow.
The subject is an actual scandal that resulted in the indictment of a group of Los Angeles Police Department officials in the late ’40s. The story is told from the perspective of Charles Stoker (Perry King), an honest cop whose investigations reveal Police Department kickbacks from Hollywood’s hottest madam (Joan Van Ark).
Stoker’s point of view is hardly omniscient, and confusion arrises when Gast attempts to fill in the missing details. Names and events rush by without adequate identification or explanation. Nor is it easy to see how the opening scene fits into the long flashback that follows.
The sketchy quality of the script not only muddies the story but also inhibits the development of dramatic momentum. On the other hand, a few moments seem oddly repetitious. Near the end, for example, we hear some of the same testimony twice–first in a courtroom, then at a Police Department hearing.

The Genesis of Sports-Speak

When the mailman slipped the mail into the brass slot on the door at 217 33rd. St. Manhattan Beach, one of the guards for the Sunshine Surfer Revenge Cluster, called up Big Brother and informed him Pynchon had won a award for his book ‘Gravity’s Rainbow’. This is to say the Brotherhood of Eternal Love had won this award, for they wrote GR in order to defuse the Doomsday Bomb – with Paranoid Clock. Now, real paranoia set in, because Writers Mundi wanted the Supreme Recluse to come out of hiding to except this supreme honor.
Glancing into the dining room at the mummy, and a scene right out of ‘Great Expectations’, this psychedelic guard had a vision of a comic he just befriended in a club in Venice.
“Why don’t we hire someone to receive this award in Pynchon’s place.”
“Do you know someone.”
“There’s this guy named Professor Irwin Corey. He pretends he knows everything, just like you know who, but he’s faking it.”

Irwin was a real Jewish Hobo, who won a Golden Glove award, thanks to reading the tedious meandering of William Unmack who destroyed Rugby in America by publishing a scientific theory on how to play the game. He didn’t understand, that not like the British, Americans are into football so they don’t have to THINK. This is why they have talking-heads doing their thinking for them. Sports-Speak gave birth to Orwell’s 1984. The world of readers came to the same conclusion within the same week, that was not missed by the non-readers and the uneducated, who turned to the Sports Page in order to bury their head in the sand.
Most us only pretend we understand, anything. The murderous rock-grinder going on in the Gaza, is THE END of THINKING. Jews were once known as THINKERS, problem solvers. The end of this idea is the canary in the mine.
Ninety-four percent of those who read Pynchon, are pretenders. Do the math, and count how many folks DESERVE to be on the Last Ark, and compare it to the probability they will not even get out the door, which is Pynchon’s pretend problem. That he sillifies all the names of his characters, tells me he is on par with that housepainter who was kicked out of art school because there were no people in habiting his cityscapes. To title Pynchon ‘King of the Beat Writers’ is…nasty!
Corey’s boxing coach ate-up Unmack’s masterpiece that was very applicable to boxing due to his detailed instruction on how to fake-out your opponent with your eyes.
Lenny Bruce said Corey is the greatest comedian of all time, because he applied this eye movement to stand-up comedy.
“It’s all done with the eyes. I don’t have to say anything relevant once I got my audience on the ropes. Wink like a butterfly and bite like a bee.”
Study the eyes of Groucho Marx, and know the world has gone awry, we not able to look our fellow human being in the eye, or keep our eyes on the road, because we our busy texting. The world’s youth are begging to be Sucker-punched!
What does this have to do with Doomsday, you ask? Well, there will be a Doomsday Scrum, a stampede to get on the last boat, the last train car, that will take you to the Last Ark, and knowing how to get around those who get in your way – and try to stop you – is key!
Unmack’s father was a member of the German Turnverein and was a good friend of Max Nardau, the Zionist, who could not be kept out of the Promised Land. There was a look about him. This caused a falling out when they lived in Berlin, after they had their children marry one another in order to create the New Man.
Max is the father of Muscular Judaism that stole the physical fire of the Turner Gymnastic clubs, and created modern Zionism. Like most Jocks, he attacked Bohemian Art and Artists, titling them ‘Degenerates’. The Vonneguts built Turner Halls, and like my Janke kindred, were Forty-Eighters who co-founded the Radical Republican Party and waged war against the Confederacy. Brothers faced each other with bayonets. They had murder in the eye.
How ironic, that very physical surfers, driving Volkswagons and wearing Iron Crosses, would become the vanguard of a mind-altering revolution that promoted Free Thinking.
Above is the house my ex lived in with Thomas. Note the two guys in white, pretending to be house painters. Do you see a paintbrush in their hands? Well, their job is to keep ‘The Nosy’ at bay.
House painters are the biggest fakes of all. But, what can we do. Who can we get to paint our homes, but a housepainter? Most homeowners are perplexed about who actually painted their homes, they biting their nails down to the quick every time they behold these lazy bums, some with surfboards on their van. Just when you rush home to call the cops, and your attorney, after (with binoculars) you caught the whole crew hanging ten in the breakers, there’s their boss with his hand out for a check.

I call them ‘The Roller Mafia’. On their breaks (which can last for days) painters engage in Sports-Speak. Is the painter on left describing the touchdown he saw on T.V. along with twenty million other viewers? It’s now not too difficult to imagine these Men in White are authoring great novels, when, and if, they finally get back to work!

When the famously publicity-shy Thomas Pynchon won the National Book Award Fiction Citation for Gravity’s Rainbow, he asked Corey to accept it on his behalf.[6] The New York Times described the resulting speech as “…a series of bad jokes and mangled syntax which left some people roaring with laughter and others perplexed.”[6]
The novel’s title declares its ambition and sets into resonance the oscillation between doom and freedom expressed throughout the book. An example of the superfluity of meanings characteristic of Pynchon’s work during his early years, “Gravity’s Rainbow” refers to:
the parabolic trajectory of a V-2 rocket: the “rainbow-shaped” path created by the missile as it moves under the influence of gravity, subsequent to the engine’s deactivation;
the arc of the plot. Critics such as Weisenburger have found this trajectory to be cyclical or circular, like the true shape of a rainbow. This follows in the literary tradition of James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake and Herman Melville’s The Confidence-Man.[6]

Corey was born in 1914 in Brooklyn, New York.[2] Poverty-stricken, his parents were forced to place him in the Hebrew Orphan Asylum of New York, where Corey remained until his early teens, when he rode the rails out to California, and enrolled himself at Belmont High School in Los Angeles.[2] During the Great Depression he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps and, while working his way back East, became a featherweight Golden Gloves boxing champion.
