Eugene’s City Councilperson is being given the Bum’s Rush. Going to her favorite resturant, she can not ignore the very charismatic woman raging with a Russian accent. Is this another street-crazy? Little did she know this was by far the craziest person that ever came inside her city limits. And now she was waving around a bottle of beer that got her very drunk, she on the verge of telling everyone;
“I have killed men! Plenty of men! I dispatched a case of men – to hell! You have no idea who you are fucking with!”
The Councilperson chortled to herself.
“Right! One beer, and she’s ready for a straight jacket”.
Raising her fork to her mouth, she sees Starfish whip her head and is looking dead at her.

The two words of the blog post’s title describe two very different ways of being and doing church. An inclusive church is one which welcomes all types of people, people who might otherwise be rejected for reasons of class, race, sexual orientation or age. Such a church tries, sometimes with difficulty and cost, to live out Paul’s statement that ‘there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, but all are one in Christ’.
Exclusivity in Church presents a quite different vision of what it is about. For exclusive Christians, there is placed a great priority in ensuring that those allowed in church are worthy or pure enough to be there. They will also all have passed through a common conversion experience of ‘giving their heart to Jesus’. They will then be examined to see if they believe a series of statements connected with Christ, his sacrificial death and the need to trust divine revelation revealed in the Bible. They are then believed to be part of a redeemed humanity which, so their church informs them, is saved and destined for eternal life with God in heaven.

Do Mormons practice a form of ancestor worship? What does it mean that we must be saved “with all our dead”?
I started to think about this concept when I was in Sicily last September, where I visited the Capuchin catacombs. Under the streets of Palermo, there are 8,000 deceased Sicilians dating from 1599 to 1920, mummified and displayed. The original intent was for families to be able to come visit their revered dead and to pay homage to them. Many of the dead are posed in such a way to be “looking” at the visitors, and as our guide pointed out, this was to be a warning to their offspring that the pleasures of this life are fleeting. Or as my Italian Catholic friend pointed out, only a Catholic mother could find a way to guilt her kids from the grave.

About Elaine Donnelly
Elaine Donnelly is founder and president of the Center for Military Readiness, an independent, nonpartisan public policy organization that reports on and analyzes military/social issues. Since its founding in 1993, CMR has advocated for high, uncompromised standards in all forms of military training and sound priorities in the making of military/social policies.
Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger appointed Mrs. Donnelly to the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS) for a three-year term. (1984–1986). In 1992, President George H. W. Bush appointed her to the Presidential Commission on the Assignment of Women in the Armed Forces. For a full year, the commission studied all aspects of issues surrounding women in combat in all branches of the service.

The Nebraska GOP party convention in Kearney on Saturday reportedly went from a grand old party to grand new resignations.

Nebraska GOP Executive Director Taylor Gage confirmed with KETV that he’s on the list.

Nebraska GOP Chairman Dan Welch was handily voted out of his position after giving a speech that same morning encouraging unity among a divided party.
Delegates elected the Lancaster County GOP Chairman Eric Underwood to replace Welch, giving him 195 votes. Third congressional district state GOP representative Ron Schmidt received 113 votes. Four wrote Welch in, though he did not put his name in for re-nomination.

Earlier this week, former U.S. Senate candidate Matt Innis received a letter from the Nebraska GOP informing him of his declined credential to the party convention, along with the former secretary of state candidate Robert Borer and others.
Innis said the party’s reasoning for his banning from the convention was due to his criticism of Gov. Pete Ricketts.

“Ultimately, your vocal criticism of Governor Ricketts, the top Republican elected official in the state and leader of our party, caused the Committee to decline to credential you,” Innis said of the Nebraska GOP’s letter.
The Nebraska Examiner reported that Innis, along with others, received a mass text message stating his credentials were being discussed at the convention and that he should appear.
This led to Innis appearing at the convention, ending in Kearney police arresting him for criminal trespassing and third-degree assault.
After his arrest, a private security officer told Kearney Police that Innis assaulted him when denied entry.
Innis said he was unaware of the private security officer’s authority, as he was dressed in plainclothes rather than identifying uniform.
The Nebraska Examiner reported that Innis was eventually bailed out and let into the convention.
Nebraska’s Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb released a statement following Saturday’s events.
“Republicans are sick and tired of Ricketts using his father’s money to buy elections. The culture of corruption runs deep in the Nebraska Republican establishment. The majority of Nebraskans want our government to work for the people,” Kleeb said.
