HMS Queen Elizabeth has arrived in New York to host a two-day Anglo-American defence conference.The Royal Navy’s flagship dropped anchor in New York Harbour on Sunday.
It set sail for the US from Portsmouth on 7 September in place of HMS Prince of Wales which broke down off the Isle of Wight, days before the trip.
The 65,000-tonne warship will be the floating venue for the Atlantic Future Forum (AFF) being held on Wednesday and Thursday.

The annual event is set to see hundreds of political, military and business leaders board the aircraft carrier.
Sir Ian Fleming is my kin via Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor. On Memorial Day, I honor my relatives who made a huge impact on Hollywood. Fleming wanted my kin, Richard Burton, to play in his first Bond movie. I also honor my kin, Ben Toney, who served in the U.S. Navy. We are related to Rosamond Clifford via Lewis Clifford.

Richard Burton on Ian Fleming’s ‘You Only Live Twice’

Today is the anniversary of the death of the great Richard Burton. Once considered for the role of James Bond, he was a voracious reader and one wonders what he thought of Ian Fleming. The closest we might get is a short diary entry published in ‘Richard Burton: A Life’ (p. 292).
