Five years ago I and my neighbor went on a tour of the site where the new Waterfront Park is located. Mayor Kitty Piercy led the way into the old steam plant. The new Oakland stadium was approved – along with low-cost housing for black folks.

The Oakland City Council had approved the 3,500-page report in February on a 6-2 vote–a key vote in allowing the $1-billion ballpark to move forward in the planning process.

I lived on a houseboat and sailboat here at the end of Adeline Street next to Schnitzer Steel. Adeline is the ramp that ended where Sea&Land was. The Sunshine Harbor got filled in. My girlfriend and I, along with another person who owned an old tugboat, were the only residents that lived in the industrial area. My history is important to this new development.
