In the top photo there is a woman sitting on the ground behind Marilyn. Her name is Joan. Years ago she came home for Thanksgiving and found seven members of her family, including her parents, blown away with shotguns wielded by the Black Mau-Mau gang of Chicago. Her father was a CEO of Chevron and had been targeted for this reason. Joan was the best friend of my ex-wife, Mary Ann Tharaldsen, who was married to Thomas Pynchon, whose movie I will see today. When we went back East, Mary Ann and I stayed with one of the Chicago Seven. This photo was taken at my wedding reception. Joan co-owned a model agency.
