Rabbi Thau Declares War On LGBTQ

To: Mayor Mates, Governor Newson, and Governor Kotek

For several months I have been blogging on my newspaper, Royal Rosamond Press, information that will aid me in my lawsuit against the City of Belmont for refusing to help me know why my great grandparents were dug out of their graves in the middle of the night, and placed in a common grave in Redwood City. The Janke Family is the Founding Family of Belmont.

I found a Jewish Citizen who stopped funding an Israeli Think Tank. Five years ago I said I want to found a Think Tank and School of Spies in Belmont, but was rudely treated by members of the Belmont Historical Society. Janke was a founder of three Turnverein Halls that are tied to the Jewish Turnverein that founded colonies in Israel that were taken over by radical Zionists. A descendant of the teaching of this radical religious movement has (allegedly) declared war on the LGBTQ people – all over the world – because Jews are found all over the world. Russia and several African Nations have declared war on the LGBTQ people. Rabbi Thau is trying to influence how Americans vote. There needs to be a think thank to help expose the motives of these religious organizations. As for the lawsuit, I found the Civil Rights Bill that Belmont passed in order to protect marginalized people.

Here is Rabbi Thau on The Family;

“Without a family, there is no historical continuity and connection with the previous generations, there is no common national identity, there is no heritage, and there is no tradition, and the person then becomes completely disconnected,” writes Thau in the book.”

Sincerely

The decision by Arthur Dantchik, a 65-year-old libertarian multibillionaire from New York, to cut funding to the Kohelet Policy Forum reflects the scope of the unrelenting protest movement against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plans to weaken the Supreme Court.

Left-wing activist Yair (“Yaya”) Fink filed a police complaint on Monday after the head of Yeshiva Har Hamor, Rabbi Zvi Thau, called on his followers to “wage war” against “postmodernism” and LGBT people which he called a “crime against humanity.”

The 90-page book, titled “On Dealing with Postmodernism and Breaking Free from its Shackles,” was published recently by the Hosen Yeshuot publisher of Yeshivat Har Hamor.

The description of the book on the publisher’s website reads “The book contains the lessons of Rabbi Zvi Israel Thau about postmodernism, which is increasingly spreading in human culture – its destructive essence, the way it operates, its dangers to humanity in general and to Israel in particular, the ways of dealing with it and the duty to fight it.”Top ArticlesRead More

“From a profound religious perspective, drawing from [Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook’s] teachings, the rabbi explains the reason for the spread of postmodern thought precisely in our time and what will grow from it during our redemption.”

While Thau’s book does not explicitly refer to the word LGBT, it does frequently discuss matters relating to LGBT people, referring to the LGBT community as a “new culture of eliminating the family,” according to Haaretz.

The book complains about efforts to place “parent 1” and “parent 2” in lieu of “father” and “mother” on government forms, among other issues. The book focuses largely on family structure, including comments such as “the period of childhood is a very important period for instilling basic values and basic distinctions, and when a child does not have a father and a mother, all the normal relation to his origin, his past, and his future is blurred.” Thau’s book refers to this situation as a “crime against humanity.”

“Without a family, there is no historical continuity and connection with the previous generations, there is no common national identity, there is no heritage, and there is no tradition, and the person then becomes completely disconnected,” writes Thau in the book.

“The blurring of the sexual identity of the child until he does not know whether he is a boy or a girl undermines his more elementary confidence in his identity, and hence the path to eliminating his Jewish identity is short, and since he is not sure of his national identity, he loses the power to stand against the national narrative, the power to protect the people, the faith in fulfilling the promises of the prophets, and desires a state that is nothing more than a mixed multitude.”

“We are not used to fighting, and many times we feel an internal inhibition from saying our words with the fierceness and audacity of holiness. There are also those who think that those who were educated on the rabbi’s teachings (a reference to Kook) must be pleasant and nice… but the mistake is theirs. It is our duty to act courageously and without fear in taking a stand and expressing an opinion against every idea and method that comes to consume the vineyard of Israel.”

“Just as in times of existential danger to the body, one does not adhere to the rules of etiquette and respect… all the more so, in times of danger to the life of the soul. At a time when a mental illness emerges, which may corrupt and destroy every good part of the nation’s spirit and soul, there is no escape but to go to war and sometimes even express it with harsh and shocking expressions that are not pleasant for everyone. There is no place to weaken the protest of the Torah because of polite conventions.”

Thau has been accused of raping and sexually abusing at least two women. Israel Police announced in June that they had completed the investigation into the rabbi’s case and had transferred the materials collected to the State Attorney’s Office. There have been no updates since.

Thau’s anti-LGBT, anti-Reform ‘Hazon’ movement

Thau was one of the founders of the Hazon movement which later led to the development of the Noam Party led by Avi Maoz, who currently serves as a deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Hazon movement made its debut ahead of elections in 2019 with a large banner at the entrance to Jerusalem reading “A father and a mother = a family. The courage to be normal.”

The banner was part of a much larger campaign started by Hazon, which described itself as a movement dedicated to “returning the Jewish character to the national agenda in Israel.” The campaign was centered on using the time before the election to pressure politicians to agree to a religious Jewish agenda for the State.

While Hazon’s campaign targeted a variety of topics, including work and public transport on Shabbat, the Women of the Wall movement (all of which were described by the movement as “not normal”), the vast majority of the campaign focused on LGBT matters.

The Hazon movement has largely been replaced by the Noam Party, which ran on an identical campaign, with its tagline being “a normal nation in our land.” The head of the party has expressed strong opposition to LGBT people, Reform Jews, “left-wing entities,” and Yeshivat Har Etzion.

The head of the Noam Party was given the authority to open a new governmental body called the “Jewish National Identity Authority” which received a budget of NIS 120 million for 2023. Maoz was also given control of the unit responsible for external programming in the education system, raising concerns that he could block thousands of programs covering everything from LGBT tolerance to Jewish programs that aren’t in line with Yeshivat Har Hamor’s ideology.

Another affiliate of the Noam Party, Rabbi Tzvi Kustiner, the head of the hesder yeshiva in Mitzpe Ramon, was filmed last year telling students “This is the battle that I tell everyone, each one in his place. Don’t be shy. Be courageous. Where you work say ‘LGBT+ people, go home!’ ‘gays, go home!’”

Kustiner claimed there was much violence and sexual abuse among LGBT+ people, and called them “Evil people! They’re going to put this craziness in every home and we’re silent, scared. Parent 1, parent 2, crazy!” according to the video.

“Fight them on everything. It is our job in every place not to be ashamed of our Judaism. This crazy government, this insanity, God willing it will fall,” added the yeshiva head, with a number of students responding “Amen,” the video footage shows.

Fink, who filed the police complaint against Thau on Monday, stated “Exactly 8 years after Shira Banki’s murder, there are important and dark rabbis who have forgotten what it is to be Jewish and continue to incite against hundreds of thousands of members of the LGBT community. When a leading rabbi in the community calls on his followers to take action, the action may be taken. The police must act a moment before the next murder.”

The Agudah – The Association for LGBTQ Equality in Israel – condemned Thau’s comments as well, stating “Iran is here.” The Agudah added that it had filed a police complaint against Thau, saying the rabbi was inciting violence with his comments.

“It is impossible to ignore wild and extreme incitement written in black and white with the aim of harming the members of the LGBTQ community and erasing us,” said the Agudah. “The masks have been removed, this is the vision of the extremist parties in the Knesset, written in black and white: to wipe us out.”

“This is the spiritual father of Avi Maoz who serves in the Israeli government as a deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, with budgets of hundreds of millions of shekels. This is the face of the hatred in the Yeshiva that is budgeted from our tax money in excess of five million shekels each year. The harm to the gay community is already present on the ground in an unprecedented increase in the cases of violence and hatred against LGBT people, we cannot allow this to continue and we will use all the legal tools at our disposal against bloodshed.”

LGBT-phobia on the rise

LGBT-phobia has been on the rise in recent years and has spiked since the government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took office.

3,309 cases of LGBT-phobia were reported in 2022, an 11% increase compared to the previous year. There was a seven-fold increase in the number of LGBT-phobic incidents involving public figures and the media, a five-fold increase in the number of LGBT-phobic incidents in public places and an eight-fold increase in cases of discrimination at businesses.

A survey by the Israeli Institute for Gender and LGBT Studies in May found that a vast majority (86%) of LGBT+ Israelis across the country report that their sense of security had deteriorated in the prior three months. 77% of the respondents stated that they do not trust the police to protect them.

According to the Agudah – The Association for LGBT Equality in Israel, in March there was a four-fold increase in LGBT-phobic incidents compared to last March.

Tzvi Joffre contributed to this report.

Thau is the ideological leader of the Noam party, a far-right religious Zionist party in Israel whose key issue is the promotion of heteronormative, anti-LGBTQ, and traditionalist policy. Leading up to the 2021 Israeli legislative election, he told followers “these homosexuals, these perverts, are miserable people. We want the voice of truth and the voice of faith and the voice of Torah to sound, and for someone there to cry out all the time… someone who will not rest until this thing is off the agenda.”[7]

Allegations of sexual assault[edit]

In 2022, Israeli police opened an investigation against Thau following multiple accusations of sexual assault. One woman said that Thau had repeatedly assaulted her over 30 years, beginning when she was a minor.[8] Soon after, another woman accused Thau of raping her after she immigrated to Israel and became close with the Thaus. Thau has not responded to the allegations.[9] In the past, Thau had supported public figures accused of sexual assault, such as Moshe Katsav and Chaim Walder.[10] A new allegation of sexual assault was made in June 2023.[11]

Zvi Yehuda Kook (Hebrew: צבי יהודה קוק, 23 April 1891 – 9 March 1982) was a prominent ultranationalist[1][2] Orthodox rabbi. He was the son of Abraham Isaac Kook, the first Ashkenazi chief rabbi of British Mandatory Palestine.[3][4] Both father and son are credited with developing Kookian Zionism, which became the dominant form of Religious Zionism.[5] He was Rosh Yeshiva (dean) of the Mercaz HaRav yeshiva.

Kook’s fundamentalist teachings were a significant factor in the formation and activities of the modern religious settlement movement in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Gaza, largely through his influence on the Gush Emunim movement, which was founded by his students.[6] Many of his ideological followers established such settlements, and he has been credited with the dissemination of his father’s ideas, helping to form the basis of Religious Zionism.[7]

Kook presided for nearly six decades over the Mercaz HaRav yeshiva (lit. ’The Rabbi’s Centre’) founded by his father in Jerusalem, which became “the flagship yeshiva of religious Zionism”,[8] where hundreds of future militants, opposed to territorial compromises and promoting Israeli settlement of the Occupied Palestinian Territories, received their formative education.[1]

Ideology

Zionism began as a secular movement often led by disbelievers many of whom rejected Jewish religious traditions, one of which held that any collective ‘return’ of the Jewish people, as opposed to individual aliyah, depended on the direct intervention of the Messiah. The Kooks’ innovation consisting in elaborating a theology that bridged the gap between a faith that saw Zionism as a heresy, and the Zionist programme for the development of a secular state for Jews. As Kook’s father phrased it, a Jewish polity must “build secularly and sanctify afterwards.”[27]

Hostility to Christianity

Though his own father was long tempted by the antinomian strain of Jewish messianism, World War 1 had led him to conclude that the great source of contemporary evil lay in the antinomian dispensation of Christianity.[39] Zvi Kook’s ideology, reflecting his father’s ‘intense loathing’[40] or theological disdain,[p] is characterized by a staunch hostility to Christianity, which he regarded as a ‘crime against Israel’, the ‘refuse of Israel’, an image recalling Talmudic traditions of Jesus, ‘the criminal of Israel’ (poshea Israel), being boiled in excrement.[41][42][q] Christianity was a form of idolatry, a blasphemy against the divinity of Jews.[43] He refused to back away from the antisemitic notion that Jews bore responsibility for Jesus’s crucifixion. This apparently was one of his ways of repudiating the victim mentality ascribed to Jews in diaspora.[44]

He began to outline his opinions in this regard in 1952, after concluding that Israel’s establishment constituted a war against Western Christendom. Rummaging through two millennia of sources uncritically, such as Toledot Yeshu, he revived a tradition of anti-Christian polemics which, according to some critics,[41] had not seen the likes for over a millennium.[r] Key points in this attitude affirm that Christianity is a Jewish heresy; that whereas the Christian god is dead, the Jewish god is alive.[41] He asserted that the term min/minim apostates in rabbinical literature indeed denoted Christians.[41]

When the Vatican hoisted the Israeli flag on the occasion of Golda Meir‘s visit to Pope Paul VI in 1973, Kook sneered at the pope as an old galakh (shaven, i.e. tonsured Christian priest) unashamedly raising a symbol that signified the destruction of Christendom.[42] He wanted to rid Israel of Christian and ultimately Western influences, something that extended down to opposing the use of the Gregorian civil calendar.[45] He avoided reading his father’s works in the light of Western philosophy because that would be a form of “spiritual miscegenation”.[46] This influenced his views of Judaism, the authentic version being that practiced and taught in modern Israel as opposed to the Judaism of the exilic diaspora, which was, he thought, irremediably inflected by the deleterious effects of living among Christians.[43]

His writings on this theme circulate among Israeli settlers, or Torah purists aspiring to a life of secluded study and, conversely, among anti-semites.[47]

Senior religious Zionist rabbis Yuval Cherlow and David Stav, heads of the Tzohar rabbinic organization, wrote on Wednesday evening that there should be an investigation into the claim that rabbi Zvi Thau sexually assaulted several women and minors over the years, a claim made by several women a few months ago.

Later on Thursday, Channel 12 reported that an investigation was opened by Israel Police into the allegations against Thau. The allegations, one of which was publicized in a Facebook post back in August, did not receive much j ournalistic attention at the time. Cherlow and Stav’s addressing of the allegations grants more weight to them and could shift the course of events.

The 84-year-old rabbi, co-founder and president of the Har Hamor yeshiva based in the Har Homa neighborhood of Jerusalem, is one of the most prominent rabbis in the religious Zionist community. Thau is also the spiritual leader of the Noam faction, headed by Avi Maoz, of the Religious Zionist Party (RZP) in the Knesset.Top ArticlesRead More

Allegations against Thau

IN AUGUST, Nechama Teena, a resident of the Kiryat Arba settlement, alleged in a Facebook post that Thau sexually assaulted her when she was a minor.

“It took me almost 30 years to be able to tell the truth.”Nechama Teena

Teena said that she is a 38-year-old divorced woman and mother of five children. “It took me almost 30 years to be able to tell the truth,” she wrote, adding that the publications of sexual assault and rape by rabbis and leaders – such as haredi (ultra-Orthodox) author Chaim Walder, who committed suicide following allegations against him – and the harsh response of Safed Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, have convinced her to share her story.

“I know how small the chances are that my voice will be heard, and yet, after so many years of silence, I choose to voice it,” Teena wrote.

She added a photo of Thau to the post, identifying him as the perpetrator. “It is not yet the time to tell how and in what manner, but it is the time to say out loud: Rabbi Thau sexually assaulted me as a minor.”

Teena said that, “when I tried to raise my voice, he threatened me; this is not yet the time and place to tell how.

“I know how weak my voice is compared to the other voices; I know how many women on so many fronts are fighting and paying prices in the war for the truth. But this is my story, and this is my life, and it is the truth. Now is the time to hear it,” she said.

“This person, in the picture, who has so much power and countless people [working] under him, hurt me, and I’m sure I’m not the only one,” Teena said, sharing in August that she passed a polygraph test, contacted the police and had an article filmed that was supposed to be published the day before, but “due to the force that his man has and used, it has not yet been published.”

Most Israeli media outlets did not run a story about her post in August.

Teena invited rabbis and leaders of the religious community to meet with her, prompting this latest wave of attention to her story.

“We cannot remain silent when considerations of personal comfort and appearance cause the voice of these women not to be heard.”Rabbi David Stav

“FOR SEVERAL weeks now, I have been agonizing over the question of whether it is right to publicly address the claims made by a number of women regarding serious sexual abuse by an important rabbi in [the community],” Stav wrote.

“It is the duty of the police to investigate the complaints impartially – no one disagrees with that. There is also no one to dispute the presumption of innocence of the suspected rabbi or to impose judgment without a trial.”

Stav wrote that he was silent until now because he didn’t have enough information at hand to address the matter. But over the last few days, he wrote, he “spoke with one of the complainants and she told me about the difficulties she is faced with, by various bodies, to which she turned in order to clarify her complaints.”

Some of these organizations, according to Stav, are afraid to help her because of older conflicts.

The role of the rabbis is on the side of the oppressed

STAV STRESSED that he has “come to the conclusion” that he has “no choice.”

“We cannot remain silent when considerations of personal comfort and appearance cause the voices of these women not to be heard,” he said.

The role of rabbis, in all generations, was to stand on the side of those who were attacked, injured or weak, against those in power,” Stav wrote.

The testimonies shared with him, “through a conversation with one of the complainants and a photographic testimony of another complainant,” are “extremely serious.”

“Of course, this is only one side, and I have no tools to determine whether the claims are justified or not,” he said, concluding that “only a vigorous investigation carried out by an orderly body will be able to create the necessary balance.”

Cherlow wrote that “the women who claim to have been harmed have the right to make their voices heard and to demand, first and foremost, that their words be recognized.” He stressed that “Rabbi Thau is entitled to the purification of his name and to claim that things he did not do shouldn’t be alleged against him.”

Cherlow also met with the complainants. “Their words are very sharp and clear,” he said, agreeing with Stav that he has “no tools to know what really happened, since, like everyone else, I have not heard both sides.”

To return to my conversion. I think it is apparent that my rampant individualism was pretty effectively hammered out of me, and something else as effectively hammered in. But, just as I had been an individualist without knowing it, I was now a Socialist without knowing it, withal, an unscientific one. I had been reborn, but not renamed, and I was running around to find out what manner of thing I was. I ran back to California and opened the books. I do not remember which ones I opened first. It is an unimportant detail anyway. I was already It, whatever It was, and by aid of the books I discovered that It was a Socialist. Since that day I have opened many books, but no economic argument, no lucid demonstration of the logic and inevitableness of Socialism affects me as profoundly and convincingly as I was affected on the day when I first saw the walls of the Social Pit rise around me and felt myself slipping down, down, into the shambles at the bottom.
