Any attempt to arrest Vladimir Putin if he visits South Africa would be a declaration of war against Russia, the country’s president says.
Cyril Ramaphosa made the warning with weeks to go before an international meeting happens in Johannesburg, to which the Russian president is invited.
But if Mr Putin leaves Russian soil, he will be subject to an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant.
He is accused of committing war crimes during the Ukraine conflict.
Russia has consistently described the ICC arrest warrant as outrageous and legally void because the country is not a member of the organisation.
South Africa is an ICC signatory and should therefore help in his arrest.
Yet it has refused to honour that obligation in the past – allowing safe passage in 2015 to Sudan’s then-President Omar al-Bashir who was wanted for war crimes against his own people.
Mr Putin has been invited to South Africa in August, when the country hosts a summit for members of the Brics countries – an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. This bloc of fast-growing economies is seen by some as an alternative to the G7 group of advanced economies.
South Africa’s biggest opposition party, Democratic Alliance, has gone to court to try to force the authorities to carry out an arrest on Mr Putin should he set foot in the country.
Court documents reveal that President Ramaphosa is firmly against any such move, stating that national security is at stake.
“South Africa has obvious problems with executing a request to arrest and surrender President Putin,” he said in an affidavit.
“Russia has made it clear that arresting its sitting president would be a declaration of war. It would be inconsistent with our constitution to risk engaging in war with Russia.”
President Ramaphosa added that South Africa is one of several African nations holding talks with Russia and Ukraine “with a view of ending the war altogether”, and that attempting to arrest Mr Putin would be counter-productive.
Last month saw a peace mission to the European nations, where African presidents hoped they could bring Ukraine and Russia to the table together but ultimately failed.
Much has been made of African nations’ reluctance to back UN general assembly resolutions condemning Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Correspondents say the reasons range depending on the nation – be it South Africa’s anti-apartheid ties to the Soviet Union, or Mali’s present-day reliance on Russian Wagner mercenaries to fight jihadists.
There are economic ties between Russia and African nations too, not least in South Africa.
A sanctioned Russian oligarch, Viktor Vekselberg, is said to be one of the biggest donors to South Africa’s governing party – the African National Congress (ANC).

Activist Simon Roche heads a paramilitary group called The Suilanders whose “doomsday prophecy” has its exclusively white following gearing up for what they believe is a brewing race war against Black South Africans, according to CNN. The group has plans to evacuate its members to refugee camps in rural South Africa amid the government’s land redistribution plans.

Zulu Nazarite Prophets

When John Gainer came on stage at the Hult Center, I had no idea he was going to sing a Zulu song. Marilyn did not tell me much about the show she was co-producing. She wanted to surprise me. I was surprised!
In 1988 I declared myself a Nazarite, and baptized myself in the McKenzie River. I went to town and got on the internet at the Eugene Public Library. I was looking for other Nazarites. I found them in South Africa. I wrote them.
A year earlier, after reading all of Luke for the first time, I asked Jesus to come into my life and help me with the darkness of Family Incest. He appeared, and said this;
“I and my Father in Heaven are already working on this matter. Be not afraid. Spiritual Courage will be met with Spiritual Courage.”
Rejected by the local church, I found an infinity for John the Baptist who I was named after. Two hours ago I googled John and Incest. I don’t know why I never did this. I was shocked to see it is a topic being discussed – openly!
After coming into the light, I found my childhood sweetheart again. She invited me to hear the choir she sang in. Inspirational Gospel Sounds of Eugene, is open to everyone. You can be an atheist and sing songs about God. They have always been my Zulu Nazarite Church in America.
Molested children are too young to form a religious opinion. Often, they become super loyal to their abusers. The Truth – does set them free!
At Kenny Reed’s Jazz and Poetry readings, I read my poem ‘Wake Up Ye Africans’ and did a version of the dance you see performed by the men in white.

Nazarite Zulu of Drakensberg Mountain

One can conclude that God GAVE His answer when I asked if He came to America. Did God visit his Nazarites in South Africa where the comet Lovejoy is very visible?
After I declared myself a Nazarite, and baptized myself in 1987, I got on the internet and looked for other Nazarites. Was I all alone? I found Nazarites in the land of the Zulu that lie in the shadow of the Drakensberg mountain range where I want to be with my Nazarite brothers and sisters – beholding an amazing site, a pillar of smoke and fire like the one Moses beheld during the Exodus?
Is it possible a comet came and struck the earth causing a tidal wave that destroyed Pharoah’s army? The Drakensberg mountains is where the new Exodus arrives in 2012. I suspect the Nazarites carried the Ark of the Covenant on the Jubilee.
I wrote the Shembe Zulu church and introduced myself.

“Trump insulted the entire continent of Africa in his comments as well, leading to fierce reaction on Twitter.
Kenyan activist and politician Boniface Mwangi said “how America elected a narcissist, racist, white supremacist to be their president defies logic.”
“Africa sends love and light to America,” he added.
South African journalist Leanne Manas tweeted “good morning from the greatest most beautiful ‘shithole country’ in the world!”
US President Donald Trump’s complaints about immigrants coming to the US from “shithole countries” prompted condemnation from around the world.
In the US, Democrat and Republican lawmakers criticized Trump’s comments as “divisive” and “unacceptable,” while Haiti, one of the countries explicitly named by Trump, summoned the top US diplomat to discuss the President’s remarks.
Trump’s remarks come as Haiti prepares to commemorate eight years since a 7.0-magnitude earthquake killed hundreds of thousands of people and displaced many more.
He had no formal education. During his youth he became famous as a visionary prophet and healer. He was baptized into the African National Baptist Church (1906), but later broke away to found the Nazirite Baptist Church (1911). Five years later he announced some revelations. He established a holy village near Durban and developed into one of the most prominent Zulu figures of his time. On his death in 1935 he was revered as a black messiah. His son Johannes Galilee Shembe inherited leadership of his church. Johannes – a Fort Hare College graduate – lacked his father’s charisma, and had trouble maintaining his leadership. Nevertheless, he still had 80 000 adherents in 1970.
The pillar of fire by night remained with them until they reached the promised land. The pillar of fire was a symbol of divine guidance and was also God’s way of supplying light for his people during the night.
The pillar of fire by night and cloud by day stayed with the Israelis from leaving of Egypt and arriving in the promised land the time covered about thirty eight years.
