Last night, Peter Shapiro texted me the sad news that his aunt Winnie…is dead. Winnie was one of the brightest and most beautiful woman I ever had the privilege to know. She married Peter’s uncle who was an advisor for President Nixon, and they lived in a famous house in Herndon Virginia that took a month for Peter and I to paint. We stayed in this home that thankfully had a pool, because the heat and humidity was extreme. We worked an hour, then dove in. We wore our swimming trunks. We dine with Winnie every night. I told her stories about my march on Washington. She did not agree with her husband on all political matters. She had attended a fine university. The truth will prevail. The truth will come out. Watergate was just taking place. The road called to her. There were – answers in the wind. I cried when I wrote Winnie a poem. When I awoke this morning my angel told me to change the name of the Hippies – that we hated! As I lie there, this name appear……….WINDRITES! I googled WINDRITE and had an expired Trademark. But, I own…..WINDRITES.COM. Windrites are Americans who were moved by the song…..BLOWING IN THE WIND. In honor of Winnie…… this song is for you!
