Downtown Homeless Camp

Well, look who’s back! How can I be stalking members of SLEEPS if the problem will never go away? Have any males on the City Council been – compromised? Who saw this coming?

EUGENE, Ore. – The Eugene City Council voted 7 to 1 to move ahead with a plan to put a temporary homeless camp downtown on the vacant site of the former City Hall.

City staff are uncertain how much the camp will cost.

City Manager Jon Ruiz said the funding would come in part from $8.5 million approved for community safety initiatives.

Details have not been finalized.

The plans call for heated tents, electricity and WiFi at the site.

The news is seen as a victory for people without homes as winter approaches.

“It’s not very easy getting frostbite or hearing someone cry in pain because of the cold,” said Aimee Barerra, a women in the homeless community.

City Councilor Mike Clark, the lone dissenting vote Monday, voiced concerns.

“Can we be sure that this site will safe a secure?” he asked.

People downtown had similar thoughts.

“I do think they need a place to stay,” said student Autumn Morrison. “I just hope that it doesn’t turn into me feeling unsafe.”

My Downtown Eugene Solution

Buy 40 containers and put them in that empty lot. Put a T.V. at one end behind bullet proof glass. Put a heat-air conditioner unit on top protected by steel mesh. Build two bathrooms on opposite sides of lot. Make kitchen-diner out of four containers.

Use $162 million dollars to buy air tickets to Israel and hotel accommodations. Sell downtown tour tickets for $5 that has to be passed thru ten check stations to prove you took the downtown tour. Drop your ticket off. Downtown merchants will be happy with the foot traffic, even if folks are running from point to point.

Once a week, ten citizens will be chosen to fly to Israel for a four day stay at a fine hotel. Here one can relax and fall asleep on the beach knowing President Trump has made this place the most important and protected place on earth. Join up with your favorite religious cult, or, head to a secular nightclub, and party down!

Feel good about yourself, or, be assured you are going to heaven because you helped the poor and homeless. Move the Mayor and City Council to Jerusalem and hold City Hall meetings in a fine convention center in Tel Aviv. Broadcast meetings on homeless T.V. or your favorite religious station, or, your local bar. Turn Jerusalem into the Bullshit Capitol of America. Other cities will follow suit. Get out of Dodge!

I think what is called for in one Centralized City Government that can be paid to handle every cities problems, which are all the same. I’m talking about Privatization. We need Professional Bullshitters. Almost all of these Outside Experts are hired by the city anyway. We can shop for the City Government that best suits our needs. Instead of going to the polls, we shop on line.

“How does this sound………’We got Redneck Rodeo and Big Truck Parades with Confederates Flags! Yeehaw!’”

“Naw! I think we are more Bohemian than that!”

“Check this out!……….’Are you a practical socialist people who want more magic in your life? Try – Marxist Wiccans R Us!’”

This is the only way you will make ANY Eugene Citizen happy with the proposed plan. Do the math. Ten rapturous travelers a week, times fifty-two = 520 blissful citizens a year. Not bad! Add in the Hope factor, and the truth – there is a solution – alas!

The $5 dollar raffle ticket goes to pay for food for hungry folks.

This could be you! You could be one of the Happy Ones!

If given the legal green light, the city would complete the improved Park Blocks and farmers market in 2021, with the completion of City Hall occurring the following year, although city officials caution that timeline is preliminary. The old City Hall, the seat of municipal government for a half-century, was razed in 2015 due to its age and concerns it would collapse during a strong earthquake. (bullshit!)
