GREAT FALLS –
Montana artists are gaining exposure in China.
Back in September, a group traveled to Asia to take part in a tour and exhibition called “West on the Left, East on the Right.”
They are represented by 188 Art of Shanghai and while the organization is established in China, they’re looking to put down roots in the United States..
Their budding relationship with Big Sky Country might just make Montana a perfect fit.
The earliest brushstrokes of this latest artistic relationship between Montana and China can be traced back to the streets of Livingston in 2013..
” I saw a group of Chinese tour buses come to Livingston and they immediately went to Albertson’s and McDonald’s and went straight down to the park and I though wow, what a tremendous opportunity,” said Troy Selland, the co-founder of the Yellowstone Asia Initiative.
When one of Selland’s former classmates who works with 188 Art was trying to set up a show in New York or Los Angeles, Selland wondered why not Montana?
