When I first read the Bible in 1987 I was forty one years of age. What I immediately understood, was that the God of the Jews was the Losing God of Truth, because His children were big losers. They lost everything, their homeland, their homes, their families – and their freedom! They were sold into slavery in Egypt where the golden calf was worshipped. God led them out of slavery, and gave them the Ten Commandments. Aaron tried to apply the worship of the golden calf in the new religion. It is alleged Moses broke the first tablets, and God wrote another set with His finger. But, what I see is God authored the pentateuch, the Five Books of Moses which is a profound document about Social Truth and Social Justice – especially tailored for Losers who are lost in the wilderness.
