National Treasures

Yesterday, after posting ‘Capturing Beauty – The Boarding’ I lay down on my couch and turned on my T.v.. In seconds I am viewing this commercial;

“Hello Rena!”

Later that night, I saw the movie ‘The Tree of Life’. It could have been lifted from my blogs, my life story that I have been giving away for free because I believe my family is a National Treasure. Not too many folks are going to buy that, because things are only real to them after money is exchanged, after contracts are signed, when folks come to you in order to make a pretty penny. This has been true of my family who do, and did not own a sense of history. This is why the world got the worst biography ever written ‘When You Close Your Eyes’ by Tom Snyder a ghost writer hired by Stacey Pierrot whom the executor of the estate of Christine Rosamond Benton empowered in a legal document.

You can only sue someone if there are damages. This is applicable in this purge of the truth, this rush to get the first biography out in the market so a movie can be made from it. This movie was never made, because, this book is about nothing. Tom Snyder pretends he has a Twelve Step Program, and depicts Christine as an alcoholic bi-polar, violent megalomania. Snyder promised me he would not employ my program of recovery that is at the core of the autobiography I began – before Christine drowned. All recovery and abuse biographies are usual written by folks in recovery, or, by the victims of abuse. Not so in Snyder and Pierrots fiction, that has done irreparable harm to the artistic legacy my late sister left my nieces, Drew and Shannon Benton. Snyder does not mention Thomas Hart Benton, and we learn nothing about Garth Benton and his family who are the Heart-Preston family tree that is the flesh and blood of American History

When I went to Bullhead City a year ago, I did so after discussing with Vicki how unhappy our nieces were with Stacey Pierrot. Vicki Presco was now blessing my autobiography, we freely exchanging the stories of our childhood that should have been included in any biography about a world famous artist, but, my story was oppressed, cast aside. Because an outsider was employed to make sure my memories never saw the light of day, those who loved Rosamond’s images, do not learn anything about Christine’s parents. Rosemary was an extrmeley interesting woman, as was her father, the author Royal Rosamond, whose photograph appears in the history of the Ozarks that Otto Rayburn is the caretaker of. There are several photographs of the Thomas Hart Benton family, the regional artist that my niece Drew Benton, is kin to, as are the Prescos. Before Christine and Garth Benton met each other, the history of their creative ancestors merged, and can be considered National Treasures, because these men created an art form from whence a well spring of American Culture has sprang – as well a the American tree of Life. I own letters that will be sent to the University of Arkansas where thy will be deposited in the Raybrun collection, which is the National Archives for the History of the Ozarks.

Rayburn compares Royal Rosamond’s self-published novel. Bound In Clay to Tobacco Road a novel that was made into a movie starring Gene Tierney the most beautful actress that ever appear on the silver screen, Our kindred, Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor, is the runner up – in my opinion!

Christine and I shared the same Muse. Above is my sister taking in my painting of Rena Christiansen. This painting inspired Rosamond to take up art as a means to make a living so she could support her ony child at the time, Shannon, who is in this photo. There was no childhood competition between Christine and I because she never wanted to be an artist, and did not render earnest works of art. Being a beautiful teenager, she was into make-up, hairstyles – and boys! She did make her own clohtes. Her and Linda baked cookies and sent them to Dick Clark so that he could give them to a cute boy on American Granstand. My sister introducedd me, her handsome brother, to all her cute girlfriends, who wanted to be romantic with me. She wanted me to be romantic with them. Why she did this is worth investigating, because no fake biographer of Rosamond can give a rational explanation as to why Christine rendered beautiful women. She was not a Lesbian. The notion she used herself as a model, and saw herself in all these women, only raises the question as to whether Rosamond was the most narcissistic human being that ever lived – of any gender! If this is true, then my daughter Heather Hanson, is the runner-up!

The truth is – as revealed by Garth Benton – Christine captured beautiful women cut out from fashion magazines, put them under a projector, broadcast them onto an empty canvas, and partially filled in these images of models to creat her infamous empty spaces. The truth is, my late sister could not draw people freehand. Rosamond might have snipped one of Rena’s sisters out of a fashoin magazine because all three of then were high fashion models. Take away my Muse and the truth Christine gave me full credit for her becoming a world famous artist, then there is nothing to write about but for the truth Rosamond wanted to make money! She had me as a model when it came to the adoration of women. I was the ambience, the missing ingrediant she emulated.

“There’s nothing to see, or read, here. So why don’t you folks just move along!”

Heather understood that she and my grandson were the Happy Ending to my autobiography. Why then did she invite her aunt and her boyfriend to rush the stage I prepared in Bullhead city in order to hog the narcissistic Limelight they perceive was there – just for them! Why would I be interested in putting a bunch of drunks in a REAL story of Recovery? My main interest, which Vicki shared, was to come together and give our nieces the message the war over art was at an end, and it is now safe for us to gather as a family. The preservation of our family was the priority. We are a National Treasure.

All Heather Hanson, Linda Comstock, Flip, and Bill Cornwell had to do, was wait on the sidelines, and after exhaling a hardy “Hello!” keep their mouth shut! I mean, what did they have to offer in two stories of Recovery? It is no mystery to me what drinkers want to do next – have another drink! Boring!

After I have gone home to put in another thousand hours of investigation and writing, then they can do their thing. I was almost certain Vicki and Linda would become friends, they neighbors in Bullhead city. When Heather came to visit she could see both of her aunts, as could Tyler. As for Bill, he could have had the bestoftwoworlds, done his Big Leo Ego thing – when I am back in Oregon doing my thing! But -NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! This dude is the biggest Stage Hog I ever met. Heather already knew this before she brought him into my family. When he knew he was not the star of the show at the edge of the Grand Canyon, I wondered if he was going to throw me off the stage – into the Colorado River! When Bill was not getting all the attention, he grabbed my grandson and took him hostage!

“If you dont pay full attention to ME – just me – I will throw the kid over the edge!”

“O’K. Bill! Your’re the greatest! Just put the kid down and walk away from the edge!”

Let me lead Bill over to a real stage. If you look at the bottom of the very long Rosamond genealogy blow, you will find members of the Hodges family. Alexander Hodges fought Denee Sweeny for control of the Sons of Confederate veterans for the buried remains of our kindred who fought in the Civil War. Sweeney is a Big Bubba ideologue, he and his racist kind having taken control of the Republican Party founded by our kindred, John Fremont and his wife, Jessie Benton. If Big Bill Braggart, the Nascar Bubba, wants to get in a real cultural fight for the heart of America, and my grandsons, then I suggest he – GET REAL!

You’re playing with real National Treasurs, here Bill. Grow up!

Drew and myself are the survivors of a real artistic and Literary legacy. Anyone who is authoring a covert biography of my family would do well to put down their keyboard, real slow like, and walk away! Just – go!

Letter fron Royal Rosamond to his friend Otto Rayburn

OTTO ERNEST RAYBURN

Dear Friend Otto:

Pleased to answer yours of a few days ago.. Okay by me anent my
MUSICAL MOODS, Jake Bracken piece….I have Jake in BOUND IN THIS CLAY, which is
being improved right along…always growing, you know. One critic here,
only—Lawyer Roscoe Bell, quite substantial with a thriving business, and
learned. He says “In some espects the story is similar to “Tobacco Road”, but
its narrative is more true to life, except amongst the utterly degraded, and the
general public will be more readillay to accept it as a recital of local
facts…..Considerable merit to the story, and, considering the present state of
the public mind, should screen with financial success”

Mr. Bell attended school with Homer Croy, and my friend wants to send the manuscript to him in New York,
have him edit it, at a price, and take it to a publisher of his choosing. Now
Rayburn, this looks like a good proposition. However, I would rather do business
with you. I am not as young as I once was, and know through former associates,
the value of collaboration. I hinted something about this in my letter of Jan. I
again am making you a proposition; but if I do not hear from you at once I will
go ahead with Homer Croy.I will give you 25% of all proceed from BOUND IN THIS
CLAY for editing and marketing it, using both of our names, if you wish. No
answer until you have examined the work, which I will send to you at once. I
will send you this Sterling Corona to do the rewriting on, if you need it. Let
me hear from you at once.

As ever,Royal Rosamond.”

Here is Otto’s review of Royal’s novel.”BOUND IN THIS CLAY

“I have encountered a
number of strange characters during my forty years in the Ozarks, but the fellow
who really upset the applecart with his fantastic ideas was Royal (Rosy)
Rosamond at Eminence, Missouri. I was located in this Shannon County town,
publishing Arcadian Magazine, in 1931-32. Rosamond came to the Ozarks from
California. He was a native Missourian, but had been away from the hills for a
number of years. “Rosy” was a writer and the short story was his vine and fig
tree. He tried to cut a wide swath. I helped him with his novel, Bound in this
Clay, a story of the Irish Wilderness in Oregon County, Missouri. He started a
magazine called Bright Stories, but it lasted only a few issues.
About 1933 he went to Ozark Missouri, and later lived in the back woods at
Chastain in Baxter County, Arkansas. About 1940 he drifted into Oklahoma City
and operated a newsstand during World War Two. He made a little money and put it
into published his books. He had his own publishing name which he called the Gem
Publishing Company. His later books were, Ozark Moonshiners, Ravola of Thunder
Mountain, and Bad Medicine. Rosamond died November 26, 1953.Royal Rosamond’s
Bound in this Clay is one of the most bizarre novels to come from the Ozarks.
Too many of our novels are all drama with no comedy.

The saving grace of Rosamond’s Irish Wilderness Folks is their sense of humor.
They have the ability to take life the hard way and laugh it off. No doubt their
Irish ancestry had much to do with it.Prog the Peddler is the human pivot around
which the story revolves. His sense of humor is a lighted candle in a world
darkened by prejudice and superstition. Old Mrs. Eisher is the enigma of the
story; a personality with a massive body, an alert mind, and a loving heart.

Then there is Ben Holland, a fox hunter who owns a trio of miracle-hounds, Henry
Winkle, the wild man of the hills, Miss Sarah Rose, poet and school teacher,
Nancy Shobe and her “nameless daughter” Jack Bracken champion fiddler and
pedigreed liar from the Turkey Tracks neighborhood, Jan Dancy, the young Apollo
without a voice, Jane Tilly, Jan’s Sweetheart, an Ozark Venus who knows all the
answers, and other descendants of the O’Dells, the Shobes, the Ramseys who
settled Oregon County Missouri in the thirties and forties.Rosamond’s novel is
poorly written and will never become a classic, but it contains lots of laughs
with its absurd narrative. The title itself is honey in the rock. “Bound in this
Clay” it is.Rosamond himself was tied to the earth in a strange way. He was
obsessed with the idea of being a writer and considered his short stories to be
masterpieces of art. He was a hard worker and made great sacrifices for his
ideals.””

After the death of his father in 1924, Benton became particularly interested in
the traditional manners and customs of America’s mountain people, the people who
were tied in many ways to the history of his own family and its migration to the
western frontier. For Benton, as suggested in his autobiography, the unique ways
of mountain life offered important connections to essential American values:
“Our past social history in its pioneer phase is, to a great extent, embedded in
the ways of our mountain people.” In Benton’s thinking, this concept of the
mountains was primarily related to the southern mountain ranges including the
mountains of the Ozark region.”

Tobacco Road is a 1932 novel by Erskine Caldwell about Georgia sharecroppers. It was dramatized for Broadway by Jack Kirkland in 1933, and ran for a then-astounding eight years (3,182 performances). A 1941 film version, deliberately played mainly for laughs, was directed by John Ford, and the storyline was considerably altered. [1]
[edit] Plot introduction
Tobacco Road is set in rural Georgia, several miles outside Augusta, Georgia during the worst years of the Great Depression. It depicts a family of poor white tenant farmers, the Lesters, as one of the many small Southern cotton farmers estranged by the industrialization of production and the migration into cities. The main character of the novel is Jeeter Lester, an ignorant and sinful man who is redeemed by his love of the land and his faith in the fertility and promise of the soil.
[edit] Plot summary
Lov Bensey, a friend of the Lesters, walks to his home at the train yard coal chute. He has walked seven and a half miles to get a sack of winter turnips for fifty cents; which is half of his daily wage. On his way home he stops by the Lesters to talk to Jeeter about Jeeter’s twelve year old daughter Pearl, to whom Lov is married. While Lov is talking to Jeeter, the book introduces the reader to sixteen year-old Dude, the youngest of the Lester boys; Ada, Jeeter’s wife; Grandma Lester; and Ellie May, an eighteen year old girl with a grotesque cleft lip. The entire family, acting in complete desperation, works to steal the turnips from Lov, who then becomes nauseated by the sight and leaves for home.
At this point the preacher Bessie enters the scene. Sister Bessie Rice, like Ellie May, also has a deformity of the face. Bessie’s nose contains no bone, and so when looking straight at her face one can see straight into her nostrils, like a pig. Despite this, Jeeter is still attracted to her. She does some preaching and praying for everyone’s sins, and then proposes marriage to Dude. However, Dude is more interested in her offer of letting him drive the new automobile that she anticipates purchasing than in actually getting married to her. Bessie then goes home to her hovel to ask God whether or not she and Dude should get married.

Tobacco Road is a 1941 film directed by John Ford starring Charley Grapewin, Marjorie Rambeau, Gene Tierney, William Tracy and Dana Andrews. It was based on the novel of the same name by Erskine Caldwell, but the plot was rewritten for the film.[1]

Otto Ernest Rayburn (1891-1960) was a writer, schoolteacher, and promoter for thirty years in the Ozarks, as the title ofhis memoir states. He published magazines and books celebrating theregion and yearned to preserve and extend what he saw as “the pureAnglo-Saxon culture” of the region. He wanted scholars and thepublic to have access to his research materials, and arranged for themto come to the University Libraries.

Otto Ernest Rayburn Papers 1916-1960 (MC MS R19). (1473 items) The bulk of the collection is The Ozark Folk Encyclopedia, 229 folders containing Rayburn’s working files of clippings, notes, letters, photographs, etc., arranged in alphabetical order. The Weaver Brothers & Elviry
by Joshua Heston

All but forgotten today, the Weaver Brothers & Elviry, originally of Christian County, Missouri, were one of the greatest stage attractions to ever tour North America and Europe.

Combining down-home hillbilly humor, novelty musical instruments, orchestral scores, dance numbers and popular songs, Leon Weaver (known as “Abner”) and Frank Weaver (known as “Cicero”) performed alongside June Petrie Weaver (“Elviry”).

June would marry Leon about the time the group hit their stride on the vaudeville circuit of Europe. Known even by their close friends and family by their stage names of Abner, Cicero and Elviry, the group became renowned during the Roaring ’20s, and would inspire folks such as Roy Acuff and Minnie Pearl.

The Weaver Brothers & Elviry pioneered the concept of a fast-paced live show with rapid costume changes, traditional country music and popular music, all tied together with heaping helpings of comedy.

Sound familiar? From Lee Mace’s Ozark Opry to Hee Haw to the Mabe Brothers’ Baldknobbers Jamboree and the immensely popular Presleys’ Country Jubilee here in Branson, the Weaver Brothers & Elviry prescription for entertainment continues to this day.

Following the Feb. 17 court action, Commander-in-chief Hodges, in a statement posted on the Internet, sought to assure the organization’s 30,000 to 35,000 members that the ouster was “mandatory,” and that “the GEC acted in the best interests of the SCV.”
“Never before have we faced such an atmosphere of intimidation in the SCV, in which members, officers and GEC members have been suspended or threatened with suspension or expulsion for little or no reason,” Hodges wrote. “Our pride in history has become, for a few, a faÁade masking anger, resentment and an apparent desire to browbeat the SCV into a new direction, one with [a] politically ideological path determined by a select few.”
Hodges listed eight allegations against Sweeney, including suspensions and threatened suspensions of board members, conducting “harassing investigations” against opponents on the board, and “creating and maintaining a hostile work environment.”
Hodges closed by warning members, “Be very skeptical of the shrill voices of contentiousness.” He asked for members’ “prayers, support and patience” in the board’s efforts “to return the SCV to an organization committed to reasonable conduct, a precious heritage and the rule of law.”

  1. Reblogged this on rosamondpress and commented:

Christine came close to being homeless on several occasions. In one of these close calls, she was drugged and raped by a couple who filmed this crime. Rena, Christine, and myself were abused as children. This crime often leads to homelessness. I am warning anyone who is still attempting to take from these two artists and their muse – BUG OFF!
