President Trump referred to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as “a paper tiger” and “cowards” on Friday over Europe’s collective stance to not support securing the Strait of Hormuz as the U.S. and Israel continue striking Iran.
“Without the U.S.A., NATO IS A PAPER TIGER!” Trump wrote in a TruthSocial post.
“They didn’t want to join the fight to stop a Nuclear Powered Iran. Now that fight is Militarily WON, with very little danger for them,” Trump continued.
Despite the president insisting the war was won and Iran’s military decidely hobbled, he has stopped wrote of outright declaring victory.
“[They] complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay, but don’t want to help open the Strait of Hormuz, a simple military maneuver that is the single reason for the high oil prices. So easy for them to do, with so little risk. COWARDS, and we will REMEMBER!” Trump wrote.

The president’s comments come despite Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands signaling their “readiness” to contribute” to efforts to keep the Strait of Hormuz open just one day prior.
“We express our readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait,” the country’s leaders wrote in a letter. “We welcome the commitment of nations who are engaging in preparatory planning.”
The letter does not detail in what capacity the countries are willing to contribute to secure Hormuz, which typically delivers some 20 percent of the world’s oil daily.
The nations all signed on to the joint statement, conveying “deep concern” about the Iranian strikes’ impact on the global energy supply.
The U.K., France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands are all members of NATO.
Trump has been hammering NATO and European allies to secure the Strait of Hormuz and has pressured several countries to join in the military action, which they have so far staved off.
NATO’s Secretary-General Mark Rutte said on Thursday that he was “confident” the organization and its allies would find a way forward to reopen traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
“I’m confident that allies as always will do everything in support of our shared interest as we always do — so we will find a way forward,” he said.
