RICHARD P. DEL PIANO JUL 13, 1935 – APR 5, 2011 Richard Del Piano, 75, passed away peacefully at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson, CA on April 5, 2011. He was born in San Francisco. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joan; children, Sherri (Steve) Sikora of Fremont, CA, and Ricky Del Piano of Lake Placid, NY; stepchildren, Steve Meier of Fremont, CA, Ed Meier of San Jose, CA, and Ken Meier of Kennesaw, GA; sister, Sandra Malfatti of Ripon, CA and brother, Paul Del Piano of Pleasanton, CA; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Gina & Ronnie Malfatti and Katie, Brian & Tim Casey; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Randall Del Piano; parents, Paul and Rose Del Piano; Rich was an avid 49er and S.F. Giant fan. He loved to travel. He retired from United Can in Hayward, CA. Service will be held on Monday, April 11th at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oakdale, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alexander Cohen House, 2202 Euclid Ave., Hughson, CA 95326.

A man who looted $4,000 from a woman’s bank account while posing as Grateful Dead guitar player Bob Weir has been sentenced to two years in prison and fined $500. The sentence was imposed by Alameda County Superior Court Judge Stanley Golde on Randall C. Delpiano, 33, described in a Probation Department report as having “achieved moderate fame by impersonating” Weir. Delpiano pleaded guilty in Oakland Municipal Court last month to one count of using a computer system to steal money. Other charges were dropped in a plea agreement. Authorities said Delpiano befriended the victim’s son and then moved into the family home. While the woman was out of town in October, they said, he took the money from her bank account using her automatic teller machine card.
