BEWARE OF SCAMMERS!

Write Governor Newsom and have him start a Scammer’s Hotline! LA has the best Predators in the world. They are moving in – looking for victims! Lawrence O’Donnell lamented he has talked to victims who have no one to call, or go to for help. I suspect these are seniors abandoned by family, or, they had a falling out, Predictors will go for these citizens. They will try to gain your trust, and bid you to let down your defenses. What choice do you have? May I make – suggestions! I am not telling you what to do. There should be an emergency number. I don’t know of one. If I find it, I will post.

  1. Don’t wear expensive jewelry are carry large sums of cash. Bury these items in your backyard and create a marker of some kind so you can find them when the fire is gone.
  2. Take good phonographs of your pets, and take ways to contact your vet. Do not trust expensive animals to strangers. If you do, leave a message with your vet with contact info of helper.
  3. Don’t sign over your car to anyone who helps you – or the deed to your house!
  4. Don’t carry a debit card, just a credit card. Carry three paper checks.
  5. Bring the charger to your phone, and only use it in a safe place.
  6. Wear inexpensive cloths and shoes. If you have long johns, bring them,
  7. Take your meds with you and contract for your Doctor.
  8. Wear ID bracelet and neckless, with name of next of kin.
  9. If you have a prepaid funeral cost, put that with ID.
  10. Carry info on your minister.

If the Scammer Hotline is up, you can bid anyone who volunteers to help you, give a brief summary pf the help you get. A real Helper will supply this information.

FRAUD WARNING:

Please know that neither the LAFD nor the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation solicit funds via phone campaigns.

We are NOT raising funds on the phone.

Members of the public are notifying us about phone calls they received (appearing to be from Virginia) asking for money for “firefighter fund”. The caller asks for a credit card number but say they can not provide receipt for the donation. The calls are very dubious.

If you wish to donate to an organization, we recommend You contact Them. Most legit non-profits will have an online donation option.

If you are wishing to support the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation fund-raising campaign to purchase hydration packs for our firefighters, the below website is the best method to use.

Thank you and beware! Sadly, disaster-related fraud is not uncommon but we ask you share the word so others will not fall victim.
