In 1967 I was living in a seven bedroom Victorian house with the Loading Zone who played at several Trips Festivals. I had stopped taking drugs, and spoke out about the use of LSD, saying we had gone as FAR as we can with it, and are now doing damage. I knew the manufacturers. I had seen a large bag of LSD put in a suitcase that was going to London.
“The Beatles will get some of this!” the carrier proudly announced, he doing some superior name-dropping.
I had opened Jame’s I Ching and found the list of Hippies that abandoned LSD, also, and were on a return trip. Where are we going? I found myself at the vanguard of this trip, doing point. I was never more lost – and found!
On October 28, 2015, Zane Kesey posted this on his facebook. He and modern-day Pranksters were now on the trip I have been on for almost two years after I walked onto Ken Kesey Square with my camera rolling. And there she was……Belle!
“WHAT TO DO ABOUT KESEY SQUARE?
There IS a problem with the vagrants, homeless, panhandlers etc. in the square dominating the statue. It may be too late to fix this as the city is in talks to sell it, that would be very sad. Loads of work went into the funding and creating of this statue by dear friends. What I dislike….. Is that lately when I go to spend some time with “dad” it is entrenched with panhandlers and pitbulls…so I walk away and don’t even bother. The statue was meant to be a symbol of Eugene, to visit, get a photo, pay respects and move on…not to be a place to take over. Now is the time for ideas on how to fix it, or it is 100% chance of a high rise here.”
Here is Belle and her friends taking over Kesey Square. Her lover at the time, Ambrose Holtham-Keathley, is hugging one of the statues Zane mentioned – as if he owns it. I posted some of my bogs wherein were the evil and violent threats I got from Alley Valkyrie, and her supporters. SLEEPS had taken over Kesey Square before, were asked to leave by the venders, but, were conducting a clandestine OCCUPY when I happened by.
When I blogged on Belle’s covert activity, Alley accused me of being a sexual predator, called the Eugene Police, and posted slanderous remarks on Mayor Kitty Piercy’s facebook. I was told if I do not REMOVE what I had written, they would make my life a living hell. I told them to go to hell, and, they were now famous, now a part of the psychedelic culture I and my dear friends conjured up in the 60’s with the help of Ken and the Pranksters, who did a OCCUPY or their own in order to give the message SLEEPS and homeless people do now own what they did not make, or take part in. In other words, they are
UNWELCOME PRETENDERS&PARASITES!
As a writer and journalist, I am sitting on quite a story that exists because I did no cave into their oppressive threats, their wicked design TO CONTROL information that did no belong to them. These anarchists pretended they were doing this for the homeless, but they had their own private agenda. They did everything they could to get on the news. There must be fifty videos and newspaper stories about them. They write their message in chalks all over town. What they did not want, or expect, was someone to come along and draw back the curtain – and fight for Ken Kesey Square – which I did, all by my lonesome, for almost two years. I was a sixty-seven year old senior undergoing continuous surgery for prostate cancer. I had once been homeless, adopted a homeless vet, and paid for his funeral. They did everything to destroy my reputation, and succeeded in keeping me from further helping the homeless.
At our two hour meeting at the Wandering Goat, where I tried to give this blog to Belle Burch so she could carry on after my death, I explained how Bohemians would put their kitchen tables out in the street in defiance of the curfew of their occupiers. She said nothing – knowing her attorney had used legal jargon to occupy Ken Kesey Square. Belle was acting as an agent for SLEEPS. She went out of her way to conceal who she was, and what her hidden agenda was. Why should SLEEPS have the use of any public forum?
Jean Stacey, attorney at law, said there is a law against setting up tables. Belle and her anarchists were arrested just days before I came upon the alleged “harmless” do-gooders who did everything they could to deny me my basic Human Rights – and Freedom of the Press. Meanwhile, others have taken to Kesey Square to celebrate the late Ken Kesey’s legacy.
The famed replica of the bus ‘Furthur’ rolled up to the plaza Thursday, with pranksters flooding out from all sides.
Dressed in colorful garb, Kesey family, friends and fans hopped off for a few quick photo ops.
They didn’t stay long one bus passenger and Ken Kesey’s son, Zane, shared thoughts about the possibility of the statue being moved.
“Just because this is an open space where people can gather we just need to find people who can gather around it responsibly and respect the neighborhood with it,” said bus passenger Michael Roberts.
“As long as it’s someplace,” added Zane Kesey, “someplace where the people can enjoy it and it’s open to the public and its respected; I’m good with it.”
Zane says they were not there to talk about the statue, however; they were there to promote the 50th anniversary of the ‘Acid Tests.’
The Acid Tests were a series of parties thrown by Ken Kesey in the mid-60s which revolved around the drug LSD.
Friday night at 7 p.m., Cozmic Pizza will be hosting a party to commemorate the anniversary — without the psychedelic drugs.
