Alas have found forgiveness for my late mother, Rosemary Rosamond Miles. Since I became sober twenty-seven years ago, I have been searching for the source of the shame-base that has been lurking in my family, coming from my mother’s people. On this day, I believe I have found it with the finding of the grave of Mother Wieneke who lies with her two children in the Saint Francis Cemetery in Iowa. Researchers are trying to discover the name of this mother. I suspect she was a Mother Superior of the Order of Saint Francis that fled Germany during Kulturkumph (culture war). This Mother appears to have quit the order, got married, and had children. If this is the case, then this Mother is a legend, a Fallen Angel, that best describes my mother. I suspect Rosemary became obsessed with the tales of Mother Wieneke, and thus employed her to escape the shame-base her mother, Mary Magdalene Rosamond, was also fixated on, before, and after she banished her husband, Royal Rosamond, from his home.
Mary ruled over her four beautiful daughters like a Major Superior. Mary’s cousin, founded Briar Cliff college in Dubuque Iowa. Above is a photo of Sisters as a dedication of Briar Cliff.
When Christine was ten, and Vicki five, they were awoken in the middle of the night to behold a Angel bathed in a bright blue light. The old crone up the street told me that a bright blue light came into her bedroom.
In 1992 I began my novel ‘Bonds With Angels’ in hope of getting all my siblings into Recovery, so we may know unity. Muses are seen as angels. I wanted my Muse to help bring unity to my story ‘Capturing Beauty’. Capturing Angels and Miracles is what the Catholic Church is all about. Three years ago I returned to the Catholic Church and finished taking my first common union. I forgave this church, and took my First Holy Communion. Could that Blue Angel have been Mother Wieneke?
Women were very scarce in the West. The nuns of OSF were perhaps the only white women around – that were no whores! Mother Wieneke had fled the ruthless Kaiser that was destroying the Catholic church in Germany. The OSF is now surrounded by hostile Indians. A good man offers to marry her, protect her, and be a good father to her children.

Mary Magdalene Wieneke-Rosamond is my grandmother. She married Frank Rosamond, who took the name Royal as a pen name. Mary’s cousins were Mother Mary Dominica Wieneke, Major Superior of the Sisters of Saint Francis of Dubuque, Iowa, co-founder of Briar Cliff University. Mother Mary’s brother was Father John C. Wieneke, brother of Philophena (Sister Mary Callista OSF) Wieneke, and Rosa E (Sister Mary Wieneke (Petronela OSF)).
In March 1929, Mother Mary Dominica Wieneke, Major Superior of the Sisters of Saint Francis of Dubuque, along with the Most Rev. Edmond Heelan, Bishop of the Sioux City Diocese, co-founded Briar Cliff College after meeting with members of the Sioux City community, who committed to raising $25,000 to support the establishment of a Catholic women’s college in Sioux City. The twelve foundresses of the College were carefully chosen by Mother Dominica. They were led by Sister Mary Servatius Greenen, who was named the first president.[2]
Briar Cliff University dedication, 1930
On September 18, 1930, the college, named Briar Cliff after the hill on which it is located, was dedicated. Four days later, 25 women started classes in Heelan Hall, the only building on campus at the time. In 1937, the university’s two-year program was extended to four years. Fifty-five men were admitted to Briar Cliff in 1965 and co-education was formalized in 1966 with the admission of 150 full-time male students. In 1967, the campus added the residence hall Toller to the facilities available to students, and continued in 1968 with the addition of Noonan Hall. In 1982, the athletic programs also received a new venue as the Newman Flanigan Center was built to house athletic competitions, coaches’ offices, and recreational classes.
A Master of Arts in Education program was added in 2001, the first post-baccalaureate degree offered by the institution. Briar Cliff College officially became Briar Cliff University on June 1, 2001.[3] In 2013 Briar Cliff added a Doctor of Nursing Practice, the first post-graduate degree offered at the university.[4] The 2013-2014 academic year would welcome the first cohort of DNP students.
