An angry landlord evicted a dead man from this building, so we moved the Hollis Williams memorial to the Campbell center.
“If your friend was so loved by the folks at Safeway, why don’t you have your memorial there!” said the selfish landlord who had just sold this property for a pretty penny.”
“Have you heard of the OCCUPY people?” I asked, after pleading with this miscreant to not go to war with a dead Vet.
“The who?”
This disrespectful unpratriotic creep does not know WHO the enemy is. Does he pay his taxes?
I own three of the original ribbons handed out at the second OCCUPY meeting. The folks who work for Peter DeFazion want me to fax my Adopt a Vet post to Peter who champions Veterans who are running into shameful obstacles that defeat them here at home.
The memorial has been changed to the Campbell Center at 155 High Street Eugene at 1:30 on Sunday the 17th.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – John Presco raised the flag Monday to remember his friend, Hollis Williams.
Presco hopes in the next few months he can raise enough money that Williams’ death will not have been in vain.
“He doesn’t have a home right now. He’s homeless in a morgue and I’m entering my anger stage on that,” said a downcast Presco.
It’s anger that he’s working out with a hammer. Presco mounted a new U.S. flag this Monday, raising Old Glory for the friend he lost Friday morning.
Presco said he found the 58-year-old Williams dead in his apartment Friday – an apartment Williams had moved into only 2 months ago.
According to other vets, Williams was well known in the homeless community who was often at a nearby Safeway store, collecting cans.
Now, a makeshift altar is set up in a vacant Laura Street building that Presco says was briefly used to hand out clothes to the homeless.
Presco wants the memory of his best friend to live on. His dream is for a veterans “stand-down” center that bears the name of Hollis Williams.
Presco said he wants to copy “stand-downs” held in Lane, Douglas and surrounding counties, to connect vets with mental health services, haircuts, job training and more.
“We got to let our veterans know that they haven’t fought in vain and that we care for them,” Presco said.
He said he doesn’t know where he’ll find the support or how long it will take – but to remember his longtime friend, he won’t give up easily.
“I suffered some homelessness and abandonment and stuff like that,” Presco said, “so I’m not going to abandon my friend.”
The property and house on Laura Street is being sold, so locating a center there is unlikely. Presco said that’s the kind of layout he’s looking for.
Services for Hollis Williams will be next Sunday 1:30 p.m. at Campbell Senior Center in Eugene.
Al-Qaeda targeted Olympics, Jews: court

Al-Qaeda planned an attack during the Sydney Olympics and to target the Jewish community, according to notes revealed during the trial of an Australian man accused of plotting to bomb the Israeli embassy in Canberra.
A notebook seized from Jack Roche’s Perth home in 2002 describes in Indonesian how al-Qaeda leaders in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Malaysia planned the attacks. The Melbourne Jewish leader, businessman and football identity Joseph Gutnick was identified as an important target.
The notebook says the goal is to have a “heavy” impact on the Jewish community in hit-and-run attacks.
Roche, 52, has pleaded not guilty in Perth District Court to conspiring with senior al-Qaeda figures Mukhtar, Abu Hafs and Saif to plant a truck bomb outside the Canberra embassy in 2000, shortly after returning from explosives training at an al-Qaeda camp near Kandahar.
Indrawati Zifirdaus, an interpreter from Curtin University, yesterday read out an English translation she made from the 20-page notebook.
In it, Roche describes meetings with al-Qaeda officials and Jemaah Islamiah figurehead Hambali, and how they wanted the problems in Palestine to “be submitted again in the minds of the people of the world”.
“I met Hambali and we discussed about the possibility to do something in Sydney, during the Olympic Games there, this year,” the notes read.
“The main objective here is that this operation will not only be done once but . . . we will do something again and disappear. Their decision is two important targets in Australia – Israel embassy and/or Jews named Joe Gutnick.”
“I also need to find other Jewish targets . . . for example when there is a meeting of a lot of Jewish, etc”.
The trial had earlier been told how Hambali provided Roche with access to al-Qaeda officials including Osama bin Laden, and how he travelled to Afghanistan via Pakistan to meet them.
The notes of these meetings described how al-Qaeda had agreed to have three white Australian Muslims undertake firearms and explosives training in Afghanistan, while Roche co-ordinated operations in Australia.
The conspiracy between Roche and al-Qaeda is alleged to have occurred between February 15 and September 30, 2000.
Earlier, Jacqueline Anne Wood, the former partner of Roche’s son, told the court that while staying in Roche’s Sydney flat, she found two books, one titled Terrorist Handbook and the other How to make a bomb.
