The Rozier-Sherwood DEAD END

In the 37 years I have been looking at Family Trees, I never came upon a more disputed name, than….

DAVID ROSIER

No way can William Houston Rozier connect his tree to any Rougemont. He knows this. This is why he covertly began to transfer MY IDENTITY of to him. I am sure he thought I was going to die, but, when that didn’t happen he authored an attack upon my newspaper. For sure, this AI Monster hates the Constitution. How an this sneaky devil believe Knight Templars own special powers in our Democracy. The real Templars were blessed by the Papacy, and served royal interests in their promised land. Ultimately, they believed they were doing….

GODS WILL

Can Bill Rozier take a DNA test – to clear up the confusion? I have trouble digesting the possibility that Bill claimed he he descends from Robinhood, because David Rozier married….

Biography

Birth

David Rosier was probably born before 1664 in England, based on his marriage to Sarah Sherwood between Sept 1685 and Nov 1688.

First Marriage

David Rosier or Rozier or Rosser married before 24 Nov 1688 to Sarah Sherwood. At the time he was of Sittenburne Parish in Old Rappahannock County.

Sarah was not married in 4 Sep 1685 when she inherited 125 acres of land from her father, Phillip Chirrout “Sherwood”. [3]

Sarah Rosier inherited two parcels of land from her father, Phillip Sherwood. One was 75 acres part of a 300 acre tract. The second parcel was 50 acres part of a 200 acre tract. This sale was for the 75 acre parcel. The sale was made to Frances James who was the spouse of Mary Sherwood, the oldest sister of his first spouse Sarah Sherwood. David Rosier appears to have claimed title to the 50 acre parcel upon Sarah’s death in 1695. It was inherited by his son David Rosier Jr. who lived with Francis James and Mary (Sherwood) James after the death of his father, David Rosier Sr, in 1698. David Rosier Jr. sold the 50 acres of land on 1 Apr 1715 to the same Francis James.

David (his mark) Rosier, Sarah (her mark) Rosier, witn. Joseph Amon, Wm. Heather. Ackn in Rappa. Court 1 May 1689 recorded 3 July 1689

Second Marriage

After Sarah died, he married Margrett (Unknown) Rosier (aft. 1665 – aft. 1698). There is no record or source for their exact date of marriage. They do not appear to have had any children.

Death

David died intestate before 1 Jun 1698 in Richmond County, Virginia. Margaret is listed as his spouse and the executor of his estate.

When David died his children, Elizabeth, Sarah, David and Mary were placed under the guardianship of Francis and Mary James. [1]

When David died, his children, Elizabeth, Sarah, David and Mary were placed under the guardianship of Francis and Mary James. Mary was David’s sister. [4]

This reference is incorrect as Mary was David Rosier’s sister-in-law and not his sister.

Research Notes

Disputed Lineage

At one time this profile listed his parents as John Rosier Sr. (abt. 1637 – 1705) and Elizabeth (Solley) Rosier (bef. 1643 – abt. 1672) . He was not listed in John Rosier Sr.’s Will dated 1705 and there are no records or sources which indicate he was their son, so he was disconnected from them.

Rosier Possible Origins

The Rozier/Rosier family originally from France in the 1500s to England to the United States. There is a possibility that this family were Huguenots, with the surname DeRasieres. There are documents regarding MankinTown, Virginia, however I couldn’t find any DeRasieres listed in the manifests. There were several men who came to the U.S. from England with the Rosier surname. [unsourced]

Family Search

Family Search lists him as born in 1662 in Old Rappahannock County, Virginia without any record or supporting source. [5]

Early Colonial Settlers of Southern Maryland and Virginia’s Northern Neck Counties

His profile on Early Colonial Settlers of Southern Maryland and Virginia’s Northern Neck Counties lists, without any record or source, that he was born about 1656 in Bristol England. [6]

Birth Date estimated based on Apprenticeship

There is an apprenticeship record for a David Rosser from Bristol England dated 30 Nov 1676 committing him for four years. Assuming this is the same David Rosier as this profile, that would indicate he was born around 1660 with him becoming 21 in 1681. However, it is not possible to link this record to the David Rosier who married Sarah Sherwood.

It is not possible to confirm this record is for the same David Rossier that married Sarah Sherwood.

David Rosier b. 1632 son of William Rosser

This individual appears to have been born too early to have been the David Rosier that married Sarah Sherwood. Additionally, he died in 1662.

Some of the info on David Rozier could be a combination of two David Rozier. One transported 1676 by Lewis Markham and the other transported Abt. 1658 with his brother John.

Re: David ROSSER family in Virginia 1600’s

James Hughes claims David Rosser fits the description and is different from the other David Rosser listed in the discussion in the forum. He has a David Rosser with a birthdate of Abt. 1632. He is the son of a William Rosser b: Abt 1610 in Llansoy Parrish, Monmouthshire, Wales, UK and d: Abt 1662 in Llantillio-, Crossenny, Monmouthshire, Wales, UK. No info on the mother.

I show William with Two sons, John b: Abt. 1630 in Llantillio, Crossenny, Monmouthshire, Wales, UK and d: 1689 in Southwark Parrish, Surry County, Virginia Colony.

The notes on John were received from Robert M. Rosser.

From Robert Rosser:

This John Rosser is reported to have left Bristol, England at about age 28 for the Virginia Colony with his brother, David Rosser in about 1658. His family line was located in/near the village of Llandillio-Crossenny, Monmouthshire, Wales. The Port of Bristol was the nearest British port to that locale. This information was given to me by the “Internet” by William P. Rosser (188 Westgate Drive, Monticello, Arkansas 71655). This information was obtained from a book called, “Bristol & America”.

William P. Rosser states that he “believes that all early Virginia Colony Rosser lines arrived as one of those brothers, as this name was not a plentiful family name, especially that early on.”

1 Apr 1715 Sale by David Rosier Jr. to Francis James of 50 Acres

David Rosier Jr. sold 50 acres of land his mother, Sarah (Sherwood) Rosier inherited from her father Phillip Chirrout “Sherwood”. The 50 acres was part of a 200 acre parcel of land inherited by the four daughters of Phillip. It was sold to James Francis, who was the spouse of Mary (Sherwood) Francis, the sister of his mother, Sarah (Sherwood) Rosier, David Rosier Jr’s aunt. David likely inherited the land when his father died in 1698. David Rosier Jr. was placed in the care of James Francis and Mary (Sherwood) Francis after his father’s death as his mother had died in 1695. His father married second Margrett, last name unknown. David was likely born before 1 Apr 1694 since he needed to be at least 21 in order to sell the land.

Is there any source for the claim that David Rosier was the son of John Rosier (Rosier-282)? The VMHB article identifies only 4 children of John Sr. (Bridges, John, Williamson, and Elizabeth Leftwich. That article is here – see p. 276. And the 1703 deed from John Sr. & son Bridges to Jacob Martyn indicates that all of the siblings of Bridges had died without issue by January 1702/3, while this profile identifies several children of David who were either still living or had living heirs in 1703. I plan to detach him as a child unless anyone is aware of a reliable source for the connecti
